Umm Amr says: We were in Mina when suddenly Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) began to say that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "These are days of eating and drinking, so no person should fast on these days." He was riding a camel, had gathered the people behind him, and was making this announcement in a loud voice.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: During the days of Mina, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) ordered me to make this announcement, or he (peace be upon him) said: Sa’d! Stand up and announce in Mina that these are days of eating and drinking, so there is no fasting in these days. By this, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) meant the days of Tashreeq.

Abu Sha’tha’ says: We came to Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) during the middle days of Tashreeq. At that time, food was brought and people gathered near to eat, but one of his sons stayed a little away. Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Come near and eat food. But he replied: I am fasting. Upon hearing this, Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that these are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance (of Allah)?

Do not fast on these days, for they are days of eating, drinking, and remembering Allah, the Exalted."

A companion of the Messenger says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hudhafah Sahmi, may Allah be pleased with him, to mount his ride during the days of Mina and announce loudly that no person should fast on these days because these are days of eating and drinking. Then I saw him mounted on his ride making this announcement.

Mawla Umm Hani Abu Murrah says: I went with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) to his father, Sayyiduna Amr bin As (may Allah be pleased with him). He presented food to him and said: Eat. He said: I am fasting. Sayyiduna Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Eat, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded us to break our fast on these days and forbade us from fasting on them. Imam Malik said: These were the days of Tashreeq.

Only a believer will enter Paradise, and these are days of eating and drinking. By this, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant the days of Tashreeq.
