6 hadith
Hadith 3841
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out towards Makkah Mukarramah in the month of Ramadan in the year of the conquest of Makkah. In one narration, it is mentioned that ten days of Ramadan had passed, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was fasting. At midday, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a water pond. Since the people were thirsty, they were stretching their necks and looking, and their souls were desiring water. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had a cup of water brought and held it in his hand until all the people saw him in that state. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it, and the people also drank water.

(Second chain) They say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, set out on a journey in the month of Ramadan in the year of the conquest of Makkah. He, peace and blessings be upon him, and the other Muslims were fasting. When they reached the place of Kudayd, he, peace and blessings be upon him, asked for water in a wooden bowl while he was on his mount. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, drank that water while the people were watching him. In fact, he, peace and blessings be upon him, wanted to show the people that he, peace and blessings be upon him, had broken his fast. Then, seeing him, peace and blessings be upon him, the people also broke their fast.

Hadith 3844
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah Munawwarah towards Makkah Mukarramah, and he was fasting. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the place of Usfan, he (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a vessel and placed it on his hand, until all the people saw him in this manner. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) broke his fast. That is why Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say that (during travel) whoever wishes may fast, and whoever wishes may break the fast.

Hadith 3845
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a journey on the day of the conquest of Makkah, and he was fasting. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the place of Kudayd, he broke his fast. (The rule is that) the last action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is to be followed. Someone asked Sufyan: Are these words—“the last action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is to be followed”—from Imam Zuhri or from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him)? He replied: This is how it is in this hadith.

Hadith 3846
Syedna Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (during a journey) reached a canal of rainwater, the heat was intense and the people were fasting and traveling on foot, however, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was riding his mule. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O people! Drink water. But the people did not drink water. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said again: I am not like you, I am the one among you with the most ease, I am riding. But the people persisted (in not breaking the fast). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) bent his thigh, dismounted, and drank water, and (seeing this scene) the people also drank water. In reality, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not intend to drink water.
