Hadith 3835
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw a man during a journey around whom people had gathered, shade was provided over him, and people were saying that he is a fasting person. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: It is not righteousness that you fast while traveling.
Hadith 3836
. (Second chain) The same hadith is narrated, however, with these additional words: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called that man, ordered him to break his fast, and said to him: Is it not enough for you that you have set out in the way of Allah with the Messenger of Allah, and yet you are also keeping a fast?
Hadith 3837
Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Asim Ash'ari, may Allah be pleased with him, who was among the Companions of Saqifah, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Fasting during travel is not an act of righteousness.
Hadith 3838
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Fasting while traveling is not righteousness.
Hadith 3839
Abu Ta’mah narrates: He says, I was present with Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them). A man came and said: O Abu Abdur Rahman! I have the strength to fast while traveling (so should I fast)? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever does not accept the concession granted by Allah, he will receive sin equal to the mountains of Arafah.
Hadith 3840
Bashar bin Harb says: I asked Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), "What do you say about fasting while traveling?" He said, "If I tell you, will you accept it?" I said, "Yes." He said, "When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would leave this Madinah, he would shorten the prayers and also leave fasting until he returned."
