Hadith 3816
Narrated by Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) observed continuous fasting (wisal) in the month of Ramadan, so the Companions also began to do so. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to know of this, he said: "If the month had been longer, I would have continued the wisal even longer, so that those who go to extremes and are strict would desist from their extremism and strictness. My condition is such that my Lord feeds me and gives me drink."
Hadith 3817
Abdullah bin Abi Musa says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) about wisal (continuous fasting). She said: During the days of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the companions practiced wisal, but it became difficult for them. When the new moon was sighted, the companions mentioned this matter to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the month had been longer, I would have prolonged the wisal as well. Someone asked: Do you yourself practice wisal, O Messenger of Allah? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I am not like you; I spend the night in such a state that my Lord feeds me and gives me drink.
Hadith 3818
Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not observe continuous fasting (wisal), and if anyone among you insists on doing so, then let him observe wisal only until the time of suhoor (pre-dawn meal). The companions said: O Messenger of Allah, you yourself observe wisal? He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: I am not like you; I spend the night in such a state that there is One who feeds me and One who gives me drink.
