It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Indeed, Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) calls the adhan at night, so you may continue eating and drinking until Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) calls the adhan. Sayyida (Aisha) says: To my knowledge, (the interval between these two adhans was such that) when one would descend after calling the adhan, the other would ascend to call the adhan.

Khubaib says: I heard from my paternal aunt (Sayyida Anisah, may Allah be pleased with her), who had also performed Hajj with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), that she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer at night, so you may continue eating and drinking until Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer. Or the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer at night, so you may continue eating and drinking until Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer. (There was only a slight interval between the two calls to prayer; as soon as one would come down after giving the call, the other would ascend to give it. Sometimes, we would cling to the second muezzin and say: Wait a little so that we may finish our pre-dawn meal.)

(Second chain) Khubaib narrates from his paternal aunt Sayyida Anisah bint Khubaib (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer, continue eating and drinking, but when Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) gives the call to prayer, then stop eating and drinking. Sayyida Anisah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When any woman still had her pre-dawn meal remaining, she would say to Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him): Wait a little, so that I may finish my pre-dawn meal.
