Hadith 3693
Abdur Rahman bin Zaid bin Khattab says: I delivered a sermon on a day about which there was doubt as to whether it was Sha'ban or Ramadan. I said: I have sat with the noble Companions and asked them questions; they informed me that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Begin fasting upon sighting the moon and stop fasting upon sighting the moon, and perform other acts of worship accordingly. If, for some reason, the moon is concealed, then complete thirty days, and if two Muslims bear witness to the sighting or non-sighting of the moon, then begin or stop fasting on that basis.
Hadith 3694
It is narrated from a companion that on the thirtieth day of Ramadan, people began the morning in a state of fasting. Meanwhile, two Bedouins arrived and testified that they had seen the moon the previous evening. On this basis, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the people to break their fast at that very moment.
Hadith 3695
Abu Umair bin Anas says: My Ansari uncles, who were among the Companions, narrated to me that (on the 29th of Ramadan) they did not see the crescent of Shawwal, so the people fasted in the morning. Then, in the latter part of the day, a caravan arrived and they testified before the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that they had seen the crescent the previous evening. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the people to break their fast and to go out for Eid the next day.
Hadith 3696
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that his uncles testified to the sighting of the moon before the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. Therefore, the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, ordered the people to break their fast and to go out for Eid the next day.
Hadith 3697
Abdur Rahman bin Abi Laila says: I was with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when a man came to him and said that he had seen the crescent of Shawwal yesterday. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O people! Break your fast.
