Syedna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would certainly encourage people to stand (in prayer) during Ramadan, but he would not give a definite command. He, peace and blessings be upon him, used to say: Whoever stands (in prayer) during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, all his previous sins will be forgiven.

Mawla of the Messenger, Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said: Whoever fasts during the month of Ramadan, then the fasting of this month (in reward) is equal to the fasting of ten months, and then whoever fasts six days (of Shawwal) after Eid al-Fitr, this entire act becomes equal to fasting for the whole year.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever meets Allah in such a state that he has not associated anyone with Him, is regular in the five prayers, and also fasts in the month of Ramadan, he will be forgiven. I said: O Messenger of Allah! Should I not convey this to the people and give them glad tidings? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Leave them, so that they may continue to act.
