بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي صَدَقَةِ السِّرِّ
Chapter: What Has Been Reported Regarding Secret Charity
Hadith 3631
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((سَبْعَةٌ يُظِلُّهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي ظِلِّهِ يَوْمَ لَا ظِلَّ إِلَّا ظِلُّهُ: الْإِمَامُ الْعَادِلُ وَشَابٌّ نَشَأَ بِعِبَادَةِ اللَّهِ، وَرَجُلٌ قَلْبُهُ مُتَعَلِّقٌ بِالْمَسَاجِدِ، وَرَجُلَانِ تَحَابَّا فِي اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، اجْتَمَعَا عَلَيْهِ وَتَفَرَّقَا عَلَيْهِ، وَرَجُلٌ تَصَدَّقَ بِصَدَقَةٍ أَخْفَاهَا حَتَّى لَا تَعْلَمَ شِمَالُهُ مَا تُنْفِقُ يَمِينُهُ، وَرَجُلٌ ذَكَرَ اللَّهَ خَالِيًا فَفَاضَتْ عَيْنَاهُ، وَرَجُلٌ دَعَتْهُ امْرَأَةٌ ذَاتُ مَنْصِبٍ وَجَمَالٍ إِلَى نَفْسِهَا، فَقَالَ: أَنَا أَخَافُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Allah Almighty will grant shade to seven types of people on the Day when there will be no shade except His: (1) a just ruler, (2) a youth who worships Allah Almighty in the prime of his youth, (3) a man whose heart remains attached to the mosque, (4) two men who love each other for the sake of Allah Almighty, they gather for that reason and separate for that reason, (5) a man who gives charity so secretly that his left hand does not know what his right hand has spent, (6) a man who remembers Allah Almighty in solitude and his eyes overflow with tears, and (7) a man whom a woman of status and beauty invites towards evil, but he refrains by saying, "I fear Allah Almighty."
Hadith 3632
عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَقَدْ سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْهَا الصَّدَقَةُ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! فَالصَّدَقَةُ؟ فَقَالَ: ((أَضْعَافٌ مُضَاعَفَةٌ))، قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! فَأَيُّهَا أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: ((جُهْدٌ مِنْ مُقِلٍّ أَوْ سِرٌّ إِلَى فَقِيرٍ، … )) الْحَدِيثَ
Narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), he asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) several questions, one of which was about charity. He says: I said, "O Messenger of Allah! What do you say about charity?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Its reward will be multiplied many times." I said, "O Messenger of Allah! Which form of it is the most virtuous?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Charity from the earnings of a person with little wealth, or giving charity to a poor person in a concealed manner, is superior."
Hadith 3633
عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((الْجَاهِرُ بِالْقُرْآنِ كَالْجَاهِرِ بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَالْمُسِرُّ بِالْقُرْآنِ كَالْمُسِرِّ بِالصَّدَقَةِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one who recites the Qur'an aloud is like the person who gives charity openly, and the one who recites the Qur'an quietly is like the person who gives charity secretly.
