It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: Whenever the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would give me something, I would say that you should give this to someone who is more in need than me, until once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave me some wealth and I said: O Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), give this wealth to someone more needy than me. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You take it and become its owner, and (then if you wish) give it in charity. Whatever wealth comes to you without greed and without asking, you should accept it, and whatever does not come in this way, do not let your soul pursue it.

Matlab bin Hantab says: Abdullah bin Aamir sent some expenses and clothing to Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), but she said to the messenger: My dear son! I do not accept anything from anyone. When he left, Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: Call him back. When the people called him back, she said: I remembered something that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had said to me, "Aisha! If someone gives you something without you asking for it, then accept it, because this is a provision that Allah Almighty has sent to you."

Qaqa’ bin Hakim narrates that Abdul Aziz bin Marwan wrote to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asking him to present any need he might have. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied in writing: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When spending, begin with those under your care, and the upper hand is better than the lower hand. I understand that the upper hand is the one that gives, and the lower hand is the one that asks. Therefore, I do not ask you for anything, and if Allah sends me something from your side, I will not return it.
