Hadith 3534
Hilal bin Husayn says: I stayed with Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him). We gathered in a gathering, and Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once he spent the morning in such a state that, due to the severity of hunger, he had tied a stone to his stomach. His wife or mother said to him: Go to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask him for something. When so-and-so went and asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he gave him, and similarly, so-and-so also went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked, and he also gave him. I (Abu Sa'id) replied: I will first try to obtain something (by some other means), then I did so, but I did not get anything from anywhere. Eventually, I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and at that time he was delivering a sermon. At that time, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying: Whoever refrains from asking, Allah will protect him, and whoever adopts contentment, Allah will make him content, and whoever asks us for something, we will give him something. However, whoever refrains from asking us and adopts contentment, he will be more beloved to us than the one who asks. Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After hearing this hadith, I returned and did not ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for anything, but Allah provided us with so much sustenance that I do not know of any household among the Ansar who is wealthier than us.

Narrated by Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever practices patience, Allah will make him patient; whoever adopts self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient; and whoever refrains from asking, Allah will protect him from need. And I do not find anything better for you than patience.

Hadith 3536
The companion of the Messenger, Hibban bin Buh Saidai, may Allah be pleased with him, says: Some people of my tribe became disbelievers, so I was informed that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had prepared an army to confront them. I presented myself before you, peace and blessings be upon him, and said that my tribe is still upon Islam. You, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: Is it really so? I said: Yes. Then I stayed with you, peace and blessings be upon him, throughout the night until morning. In the morning, I gave the call to prayer. When morning came, you, peace and blessings be upon him, gave me a vessel so that I could perform ablution. When you, peace and blessings be upon him, put your fingers into that vessel, springs gushed forth from them. Then you, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever among you wishes to perform ablution, let him do so. So I performed ablution and offered prayer. You, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed me as the leader of my tribe and gave me the alms that had been collected from them. A man stood up and came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: So-and-so has wronged me. Upon hearing this, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: There is no good for a Muslim in leadership. After that, another man came and asked you, peace and blessings be upon him, for charity. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Charity is a cause of headache and stomach burning or illness. Hearing these sayings of you, peace and blessings be upon him, I returned the position of leadership and the responsibility of receiving alms to you, peace and blessings be upon him. You, peace and blessings be upon him, asked: What is the matter? I said: How can I accept this responsibility when you have said such things about it? You, peace and blessings be upon him, said: The matter is as you have heard.
