Hadith 3495
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Anis (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day there was a discussion between me and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding charity. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did you not hear from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he mentioned betrayal in charity, he also said at that time: Whoever betrays in the wealth of charity, even if it is a camel or a goat, he will bring it on the Day of Resurrection carrying it? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Anis (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, absolutely.
Hadith 3496
Sayyiduna Abu Humayd Sa‘idi (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) appointed a man from Banu Asad, Ibn Lutbiyyah, as a collector of charity. When he returned, he said: “This is for you, and this was given to me as a gift.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Why did he not sit in his mother’s or father’s house and see whether he would be given a gift or not? By the One in whose hand is the life of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Whoever among you commits dishonesty in charity will come on the Day of Resurrection carrying it on his neck: if it is a camel, it will be groaning; if it is a cow, it will be mooing; and if it is a goat, it will be bleating.” After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands so high that we could see the whiteness of his armpits, then he said: “O Allah! Have I conveyed the message to the people?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. (After narrating this hadith) Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “My ears heard this hadith and my eyes saw it, but still, you may ask Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) as well.”
Hadith 3497
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Humayd (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Gifts given to zakat collectors are acts of dishonesty.
Hadith 3498
Mawla-e-Rasool Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: It was the practice of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that after the ‘Asr prayer, he would go to the people of Banu ‘Abd al-Ashhal and remain engaged in conversation there until sunset. Sayyiduna Abu Rafi’ (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once, after finishing there, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was hurrying for Maghrib, when, while passing by Baqi’, he began to say: “Woe to you, woe to you.” I thought that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was saying these words to me, so this weighed heavily on my heart and I began to fall back. But the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “What has happened to you? Come forward.” I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Have I committed some sin?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: “What do you mean?” I said: “You were saying ‘woe’ to me.” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “No, actually, the matter is that this is the grave of such-and-such a man. I had sent him as a collector of zakat to such-and-such a tribe, and he committed a breach of trust regarding a sheet. Now, he has been made to wear a shirt of fire equal to it.”
Hadith 3499
Sayyiduna Mus'ab bin Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went to visit Sayyiduna Abdullah bin 'Amir when he was ill. Ibn 'Amir said to Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): "What is the matter, why do you not pray for me?" He replied: "I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Allah Almighty does not accept prayer without ablution, nor does He accept charity from dishonest wealth. And you have been the governor of Basra (and it is possible that there may have been some irregularity from you)."
Hadith 3500
Narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin ‘Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: Get up and collect zakat from such-and-such tribe and be careful, lest you come on the Day of Resurrection carrying a camel on your shoulder that is groaning. Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Remove this responsibility from me. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) relieved him of this responsibility.
Hadith 3501
Sayyiduna Hilb (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned charity and said: None of you should come on the Day of Resurrection in such a state that a bleating goat is with him.
