Hadith 3285
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports that when the news of the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Ja'far bin Abi Talib came, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Prepare food for the family of Ja'far, for such news has come to them that has preoccupied them.
Hadith 3286
Sayyida Asma bint Umais (may Allah be pleased with her), while mentioning the death of her husband Sayyiduna Ja'far ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), says that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his family: "Do not neglect to prepare food for the family of Ja'far, for they are occupied due to (the martyrdom of) their head."
Hadith 3287
Urwah narrates: When someone from the family of Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away and women would gather, and after they had left, only a few specific women would remain, she would order that talbina be cooked in a pot. So it would be prepared, then tharid would be made and talbina poured over it. Then she would say: O women! Eat from this, for I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Talbina brings comfort to the heart of the sick and to some extent lightens grief.

Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah Bajali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After the burial, we used to consider the gathering of people at the house of the deceased’s relatives and the preparation of food as a form of lamentation (mourning).
