Hadith 3266
Abu Muhammad Huzali narrates from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was attending a funeral. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Who among you will go to Madinah and break every idol there, level every grave, and deface every picture? A man said: O Messenger of Allah! I will do this task. Then he went, but returned out of fear of the people of Madinah. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! I will go for this task. Then he went and, upon returning, said: O Messenger of Allah! I have broken every idol, leveled every grave, and defaced every picture. After this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever does such a thing again has denied the religion that was revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not become troublemakers or arrogant, nor become traders, except if you are traders of goodness, because these people will lag behind in good deeds.
Hadith 3267
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent an Ansari to level every grave and to break every idol, but he said: O Messenger of Allah! I dislike entering the houses of my people. Therefore, you (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for me. When I came, you (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ali! Do not be a mischief-maker or arrogant, nor be a trader, except a trader of goodness. These people are those who procrastinate in deeds or lag behind others.
Hadith 3268
Hazrat Hayan says: Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: I am sending you for a task for which the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had sent me, and that was that I should level every grave and break every idol.
Hadith 3269
Thumamah Hamdani says: We set out towards Rome with Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him). There, he was the governor of Darb on behalf of Sayyiduna Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him). It so happened that one of our paternal cousins passed away. Sayyiduna Fadala (may Allah be pleased with him) led his funeral prayer and remained standing at his grave until he was buried. When we began to level his pit (by throwing soil), he said: Put a little less soil, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to command us to make the grave level with the ground.
Hadith 3270
(Second chain) Thumamah says: We fought jihad against the people of the Roman territories, the commander of that army was Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid Ansari, may Allah be pleased with him, ... the whole incident was narrated ... Sayyiduna Fadala, may Allah be pleased with him, said: Put a little soil, because I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, commanding that graves should be leveled with the ground.
Hadith 3271
(Third Chain) Abu Ali Thumama Hamdani narrates that he saw Sayyiduna Fadala bin Ubaid (may Allah be pleased with him) ordering that the graves of Muslims be leveled with the ground, so in the region of Rome, the graves of Muslims were leveled with the ground. Then he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: You should level your graves with the ground.
