بَابُ النَّهْيِ عَنْ سَبِّ الْأَمْوَاتِ وَذِكْرِ مَسَاوِئِهِمْ
Chapter on the prohibition of reviling the dead and mentioning their faults
Hadith 3245
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((لَا تَسُبُّوا الْأَمْوَاتَ فَإِنَّهُمْ قَدْ أَفْضَوْا إِلَى مَا قَدَّمُوا))
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not speak ill of the dead, for they have reached the outcome of what they sent forth.
Hadith 3246
عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: نَهَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ سَبِّ الْأَمْوَاتِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) forbade reviling the dead.
Hadith 3247
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((لَا تَسُبُّوا الْأَمْوَاتَ فَتُؤْذُوا الْأَحْيَاءَ))
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do not speak ill of the dead, for by doing so you will cause distress to the living.
Hadith 3248
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((لَا تَسُبُّوا مَوْتَانَا فَتُؤْذُوا أَحْيَاءَنَا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not speak ill of our deceased, for by doing so you will cause us distress.
Hadith 3249
عَنْ قُطْبَةَ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَمِّ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ: نَالَ الْمُغِيرَةُ بْنُ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ عَلِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدُ بْنُ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: قَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَنْهَى عَنْ سَبِّ الْمَوْتَى، فَلِمَ تَسُبُّ عَلِيًّا وَقَدْ مَاتَ
Qutbah bin Malik says that when Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) spoke some inappropriate words about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Zaid bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to forbid speaking ill of the dead, so why do you speak ill of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) when he has passed away?
