بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْغَائِبِ
Chapter on what is reported regarding praying over the absent
Hadith 3160
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: نَعَى لَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ النَّجَاشِيَّ فِي الْيَوْمِ الَّذِي مَاتَ فِيهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَى الْمُصَلَّى فَصَفَّ أَصْحَابَهُ وَكَبَّرَ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعًا
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that on the day Najashi passed away, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us of his death on that very day. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proceeded towards the place of funeral prayer or the Eid ground and led his funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arranged the rows of the Companions and pronounced four takbirs over him.
Hadith 3161
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَاتَ الْيَوْمَ رَجُلٌ صَالِحٌ مِنَ الْحَبَشَةِ، هَلُمَّ فَصُفُّوا))، فَصَفَّفْنَا، قَالَ: فَصَلَّى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Today, a righteous man from Abyssinia has passed away, so come and form rows." Thus, we formed rows and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and we offered the funeral prayer.
Hadith 3162
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَاتَ الْيَوْمَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ صَالِحٌ أَصْحَمَةُ فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ))، فَقَامَ فَأَمَّنَا فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Today a righteous servant of Allah, Ashamah, has passed away, so stand up and offer his funeral prayer. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up and led us in prayer and performed his funeral prayer.
Hadith 3163
عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ أَسِيدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَاءَ ذَاتَ يَوْمٍ، فَقَالَ: ((صَلُّوا عَلَى أَخٍ لَكُمْ مَاتَ بِغَيْرِ أَرْضِكُمْ))، قَالُوا: مَنْ هُوَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! قَالَ: ((صَحْمَةُ النَّجَاشِيُّ))، فَقَامُوا فَصَلَّوْا عَلَيْهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Hudhaifah bin Asid (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and said: "Offer the funeral prayer for your brother who has passed away in a foreign land." The companions asked: "O Messenger of Allah! Who is he?" He replied: "Sahmah Najashi." Thus, the companions stood up and offered his funeral prayer.
Hadith 3164
عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِنَّ أَخَاكُمُ النَّجَاشِيَّ قَدْ مَاتَ فَقُومُوا فَصَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ))، قَالَ: فَقُمْنَا فَصَفَّفْنَا عَلَيْهِ كَمَا نَصُفُّ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ وَصَلَّيْنَا عَلَيْهِ كَمَا نُصَلِّي عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Your brother Najashi has passed away, so come and offer his funeral prayer. Thus, we stood up and formed rows as we form rows for a deceased person, and offered the funeral prayer in the same manner as we offer the funeral prayer for a present deceased.
Hadith 3165
عَنْ جَرِيرِ (بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِنَّ أَخَاكُمُ النَّجَاشِيَّ قَدْ مَاتَ فَاسْتَغْفِرُوا لَهُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Your brother Najashi has passed away, pray for his forgiveness.
Hadith 3166
وَعَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a similar narration from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 3167
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى عَلَى النَّجَاشِيِّ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the funeral prayer for Najashi.
