Hadith 3046
Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever tears his collar, strikes his cheeks, and calls out with the call of ignorance, he is not from among us.
Hadith 3047
(Second chain) Whoever slaps the cheeks, tears the collar, or calls out with the call of ignorance, is not from among us.
Hadith 3048
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, returned from Uhud, he heard the voices of the Ansari women who were weeping over the martyrdom of their husbands. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: But Hamza, there are no women to weep for him. When this news reached the Ansari women, they came and began to weep over Sayyiduna Hamza, may Allah be pleased with him. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, woke up at night and heard them weeping, he said: Woe to them, they have been weeping since the night; tell them to return, and after today, no one should weep over any deceased person.
Hadith 3049
Yazid bin Aws says: Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) fell unconscious, and when people began to weep, he said: I am free from the person from whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) declared disassociation, I too am free from him. People asked his wife (about whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, declared disassociation). She said: Those who shave their heads, tear their collars, or cry out loudly uttering forbidden words at the time of calamity.
Hadith 3050
Safwan bin Mahraz says: Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) fell unconscious, and people began to weep. When he regained consciousness, he said: I am free from the person from whom the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) declared disassociation, that is, from the one who (at the time of calamity) shaves his head, tears his clothes, or wails loudly. Hadith 3051
Sayyida Umm Atiyya (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When this verse was revealed: { ٰٓیاَیُّھَا النَّبِیُّ اِذَا جَآئَکَ الْمُؤْمِنٰتُ یُبَایِعْنَکَ عَلٰٓی اَنْ لَّا یُشْرِکْنَ بِاللّٰہِ شَیْئًا وَّلَا یَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا یَزْنِیْنَ وَلَا یَقْتُلْنَ اَوْلَادَھُنَّ وَلَا یَاْتِیْنَ بِبُھْتَانٍ یَّفْتَرِیْنَہٗ بَیْنَ اَیْدِیْھِنَّ وَاَرْجُلِھِنَّ وَلَا یَعْصِیْنَکَ فِیْ مَعْرُوْفٍ} (Surah Al-Mumtahina: 12), that is: O Prophet! When believing women come to you to pledge that they will not associate anything with Allah, will not steal, will not commit adultery, will not kill their children, will not bring a false charge, and will not disobey you in what is right—among these right things was also refraining from wailing (lamentation for the dead). I said: O Messenger of Allah! Such-and-such family supported me in wailing during the time of ignorance. Now it is necessary for me to support them. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (Alright) except for such-and-such family.
Hadith 3052
Sayyida Umm Atiyya (may Allah be pleased with her) says: We pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and among the matters upon which he took our pledge was that we would not wail (over the dead). But then an Ansari woman said: The people of such-and-such family supported me in wailing during the time of ignorance, now there has been a death among them, so I will not pledge allegiance to you (peace and blessings be upon him) until I have helped them as they helped me. So she left, then returned and pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Umm Atiyya (may Allah be pleased with her) says: None of the women who pledged allegiance among us fulfilled it, except this woman and Umm Sulaym bint Milhan.
Hadith 3053
Sayyida Umm ‘Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took the pledge from us, he made us promise that we would not wail (over the dead). Only five women among us fulfilled this promise: Umm Sulaym, the wife of Mu‘adh, the daughter of Abu Sabrah, and another woman.
Hadith 3054
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: When the news of the martyrdom of Sayyiduna Ja'far bin Abi Talib, Sayyiduna Zaid bin Harithah, and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sat down and signs of grief were apparent on his face. I was watching through a hole in the door when a man came and said: O Messenger of Allah! The women of Ja'far's family are weeping. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) told him to stop them. He went and then came back and said: I did stop them, but they did not listen to me. The same happened a third time. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then put dust in their mouths. I said: May your nose be covered with dust! By Allah, neither did you do what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded you, nor did you leave him alone.
Hadith 3055
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: When Sayyiduna Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away, I said: He was a stranger and died in a foreign land, so I began to weep. A woman came from the upper parts (of Madinah), intending to help me (in lamenting), but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you want to bring the devil back into a house from which Allah Almighty has expelled him? Upon hearing this, I did not weep.
