Hadith 2953
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf). The people formed two rows. One row stood behind the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the other faced the enemy. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led the row behind him in one rak’ah. After that, these people went to face the enemy, and the other row came to their place (behind the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led them in one rak’ah as well. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished with salam, these people stood up and each prayed one rak’ah and then, after saying salam, went to the field to face the enemy. The first group returned (to the place of prayer), prayed one rak’ah each, and then finished with salam.
Hadith 2954
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, narrates: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led a group in the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf) for one rak'ah, while the other group remained facing the enemy. The first group, after praying one rak'ah, went to face the enemy, and the second group came and prayed one rak'ah with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When he, peace and blessings be upon him, concluded the prayer with salam, both these people and those people completed one rak'ah each.
Hadith 2955
(Second chain of narration) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both, that he performed the prayer of fear (Salat al-Khawf) with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. (Its details are as follows:) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said Allahu Akbar, and one group from among us formed a row behind him (and began the prayer), while another group turned towards the enemy. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led one group in one rak‘ah including one bowing (ruku‘) and two prostrations (sujud); this rak‘ah was equal to half of the Fajr prayer. Then these people turned away and stood facing the enemy, and then the second group came and formed a row with the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He, peace and blessings be upon him, led them in one rak‘ah as he had done with the first group. Then, when he, peace and blessings be upon him, said the salam, every person from both groups stood up and performed one rak‘ah each, including two prostrations, separately.
Hadith 2956
(The third chain) He says: I participated with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in a military expedition towards Najd, so we came face to face with the enemy... .
