بَابُ قِصَّةِ الَّذِينَ انْفَضُّوا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي خُطْبَةِ الْجُمُعَةِ
Chapter on the story of those who left the Prophet during the Friday sermon
Hadith 2811
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَدِمَتْ عِيرٌ مَرَّةً الْمَدِينَةَ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْطُبُ فَخَرَجَ النَّاسُ وَبَقِيَ اثْنَا عَشَرَ فَنَزَلَتْ {وَإِذَا رَأَوْا تِجَارَةً أَوْ لَهْوًا انْفَضُّوا إِلَيْهَا} (سورة الجمعة: 11)
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once a (trade) caravan arrived in Madinah Munawwarah while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon. So the people stood up and left (the mosque), and only twelve men remained. At that time, this verse was revealed: "And when they see some merchandise or amusement, they rush towards it."
