Hadith 2801
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever speaks on the day of Jumu’ah while the Imam is delivering the sermon is like a donkey carrying many books, and whoever says to him, “Be silent,” his Jumu’ah will also not be valid.
Hadith 2802
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When, on the day of Jumu’ah, you say to your companion, while the Imam is delivering the sermon, “Be quiet,” then indeed you have engaged in idle talk. Abu Zanad said: Pronouncing “laghawta” as “laghayta” is the dialect of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him.
Hadith 2803
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When you say to your companion on the day of Jumu'ah, while the Imam is delivering the sermon, "Be quiet," and the Imam is delivering the sermon, then indeed you have engaged in idle talk.
Hadith 2804
(Third chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When you tell people to be silent, indeed you have committed a vain act upon yourself.
Hadith 2805
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited Surah At-Tawbah on the day of Jumu'ah while he was standing and was admonishing and advising with the blessings of Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b, Sayyiduna Abu Darda, and Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with them) were sitting in front of him (peace and blessings be upon him). (Of the latter two companions) one pressed Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked: "Ubayy! When was this Surah revealed? I have only heard it today." In response, he gestured for silence. When they finished (the Jumu'ah), that companion said: "I had asked you when this Surah was revealed, but you did not tell me anything." This time Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Today you have gained nothing from your prayer except that which you engaged in idle talk." Hearing this, I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned the whole matter including Ubayy's statement. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ubayy has spoken the truth."
Hadith 2806
Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) says: One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting on the pulpit, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to the people and recited a verse in between. Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting beside me. I said to him: O Ubayy! When was this verse revealed? But he refused to speak to me. I repeated the question, but he still refused to talk to me. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit, Sayyiduna Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: You will get nothing from the reward of this Friday except that which you engaged in idle talk. When the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, I went to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him that O Messenger of Allah, you recited a verse (during the sermon), while Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting beside me, so I asked him when this verse was revealed, but he refused to speak to me. When you descended, Ubayy (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me that I have no reward for Friday except that which I engaged in idle talk. Upon hearing this, he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Ubayy has spoken the truth. When you hear your Imam speaking, remain silent until he finishes.
Hadith 2807
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would descend from the pulpit on Friday, a man would speak to him regarding some need, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would proceed towards the prayer place and lead the prayer.
Hadith 2808
Musa bin Talha says: I heard Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was on the pulpit, inquiring from the people about their news and prices, and the muezzin was giving the iqamah.
Hadith 2809
Sayyiduna Abu Rifa’ah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When I reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon, I said to him: O Messenger of Allah! I am a stranger, I have come to ask about the religion, because I do not know what my religion is. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned towards me, then a chair was brought and he (peace and blessings be upon him) sat on it and began to teach me from the knowledge that Allah Almighty had given him. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) went back to the sermon and completed its last part.
Hadith 2810
Sayyiduna Buraidah Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering a sermon to us, when Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) arrived. They were wearing two red shirts, walking and stumbling. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) descended from the pulpit, picked them up, and seated them in front of him. Then he said: Allah Almighty and His Messenger have spoken the truth that your wealth and your children are a trial. I saw these two children, they were stumbling as they walked, I could not be patient, so I interrupted my speech and picked them up.
