Hadith 2783
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Every sermon in which there is no testimony is like a severed hand.
Hadith 2784
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Any sermon in which the testimony (shahada) is not mentioned is like a severed hand.
Hadith 2785
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon to us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) praised Allah as He deserves, then said: Indeed, the truest word is the Book of Allah, the most virtuous way is the way of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the worst matters are newly invented matters, and every innovation is misguidance. Then, when he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the Day of Judgment, his voice would become loud, his cheeks would turn red, and his anger would increase, and it would seem as if he was warning of an approaching army. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would say: "The Hour has come upon you; I and the Hour have been sent like these two (fingers close together)." Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) indicated with his index and middle fingers. "The Hour will come upon you in the morning or in the evening. Whoever dies leaving wealth, it is for his heirs (i.e., inheritors), and whoever leaves a debt or children, then it is upon me and my responsibility." "Daya’" means poor children.
Hadith 2786
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim Ta’i that a man addressed the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: Whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger has indeed found guidance, and whoever disobeys both of them has indeed gone astray. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: What an excellent orator you are! Say: and whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger.
Hadith 2787
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered a sermon while standing on both of his legs.
Hadith 2788
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would stand and deliver the sermon on the day of Jumu’ah, then sit down, and then stand and deliver (the second) sermon.
Hadith 2789
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would deliver the sermon twice on Friday and would sit once between them.
Hadith 2790
(Second chain) Indeed, the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to sit between the two sermons.
Hadith 2791
Simak bin Harb says: Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me that he saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stand on the pulpit and deliver a sermon, then he sat down and did not speak during that sitting, then he stood up (and delivered) the second sermon. Then Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: Whoever told you that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon while sitting, he has certainly lied. By Allah! I have performed more than two thousand prayers with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 2792
(Second chain of narration) In this, after "he certainly lied," these words are present: But sometimes it would happen that you would come and see that the people were few, so you, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, would sit down, until people came into the mosque, then you, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, would stand up and deliver the sermon while standing.
Hadith 2793
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he said: I never saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) deliver the Friday sermon except while standing. Therefore, if anyone tells you that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver the sermon while sitting, then reject it, because he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not do so. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would deliver the sermon, then sit down, then stand and deliver the sermon again. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would deliver two sermons on Friday and would sit between the two.
Hadith 2794
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I have performed prayer with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), his prayer was moderate and his sermon was also moderate. With the same chain of narration, he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to deliver two sermons, he would sit between them, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite the Noble Qur’an in them and would admonish and advise the people.
Hadith 2795
Abu Wa'il says: Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon to us; it was very eloquent and brief. When he descended from the pulpit, we said: O Abu al-Yaqzan! Indeed, you have delivered a very eloquent and brief sermon; you could have made it a little longer. In response, he said: In fact, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Surely, the lengthening of a man's prayer and the shortening of his sermon are signs of his understanding. Therefore, you should make the prayer long and the sermon short, for indeed, some speech is (as effective as) magic.
Hadith 2796
Abu Rashid says: Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) gave us a brief sermon. A Qurayshi man said to him: You have said (heart-affecting) very good things, but if you had made this address a bit longer (it would have been better). He said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade making the sermon lengthy.
Hadith 2797
Sayyiduna Hakam bin Hazn Kalafi, may Allah be pleased with him, who had the honor of being a Companion, narrated to us: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while I was the seventh or ninth member of my delegation. He, peace and blessings be upon him, granted us permission, so we entered and said: O Messenger of Allah! We have come to you so that you may supplicate for goodness for us. So he, peace and blessings be upon him, supplicated for goodness for us and ordered that we be settled at a place and hosted with dates, even though the people's circumstances were straitened. Then we stayed with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, for a few days, during which we also performed Jumu'ah. (We saw that) the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stood leaning on a bow or a staff, praised and glorified Allah; these were just a few blessed and pure words. Then he, peace and blessings be upon him, said: O people! You will never be able to act upon all the commands, so keep to the straight path and give glad tidings (to the people).
Hadith 2798
Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered the sermon while leaning on a bow or a staff.
Hadith 2799
Husayn bin Abdur Rahman Salmi says: I was sitting beside Sayyiduna ‘Ammarah bin Ru’aybah Salmi (may Allah be pleased with him) while Bishr was delivering the Friday sermon. Whenever he made supplication, he would raise both his hands. Seeing this, Sayyiduna ‘Ammarah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May Allah destroy these insignificant hands! I myself saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) delivering the sermon; when he supplicated, he would do it like this. Then he raised his index finger to clarify.
Hadith 2800
Sayyida Umm Hisham bint Haritha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: For two years or a little less, our oven and that of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) were the same. I did not memorize Surah Qaf except from the blessed tongue of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), because whenever he (peace and blessings be upon him) delivered the sermon to the people on Fridays, he would recite it.
