بَابُ مَا جَاءَ فِي وَقْتِ الْجُمُعَةِ
Chapter on what is reported regarding the time of Friday prayer
Hadith 2725
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ قَالَ وَجَدْتُّ فِي كِتَابِ أَبِي بِخَطِّ يَدِهِ وَأَكْبَرُ عِلْمِي أَنِّي قَدْ سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْهُ ثَنَا نَاصِحُ بْنُ الْعَلَاءِ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ثَنَا عَمَّارُ بْنُ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ وَهُوَ عَلَى نَهْرِ أُمِّ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَسِيلُ الْمَاءُ عَلَى غِلْمَتِهِ وَمَوَالِيهِ، قَالَ لَهُ عَمَّارٌ: يَا أَبَا سَعِيدٍ! الْجُمُعَةَ، فَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ سَمُرَةَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقُولُ: ((إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ مَطَرٍ وَابِلٍ فَلْيُصَلِّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي رَحْلِهِ))
Sayyiduna Zubair bin Al-Awwam (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to perform Jumu'ah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when (after finishing) we would return, we would rush to walk in the shade of the tall buildings, but would not find any shade except that which was equal to the length of our own feet. Yazid (the narrator) says: By "Ajam" is meant tall buildings.
Hadith 2726
((وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) بِنَحْوِهِ وَفِيهِ) فَمَا نَجِدُ مِنَ الظِّلِّ إِلَّا مَوْضِعَ أَقْدَامِنَا، أَوْ قَالَ فَمَا نَجِدُ مِنَ الظِّلِّ مَوْضِعَ أَقْدَامِنَا
(Second chain) In this it is: We would not find shade except as much as the space for our feet, or he said: We would not even find as much shade as the space for our feet.
Hadith 2727
عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيِّ عَمَّنْ حَدَّثَهُ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ مَعَهُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْكُوفَةِ وَعَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ أَمِيرٌ عَلَى الْكُوفَةِ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ عَلَى بَيْتِ الْمَالِ إِذْ نَظَرَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ إِلَى الظِّلِّ فَرَآهُ قَدْرَ الشِّرَاكِ فَقَالَ: إِنْ يُصِبْ صَاحِبُكُمْ سُنَّةَ نَبِيِّكُمْ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَخْرُجُ الْآنَ، قَالَ: فَوَاللَّهِ مَا فَرَغَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ مِنْ كَلَامِهِ حَتَّى خَرَجَ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ، يَقُولُ: الصَّلَاةَ
A man says: We were in the mosque of Kufa on Friday. Sayyiduna ‘Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) had appointed Sayyiduna ‘Ammar ibn Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) as the governor of Kufa and Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) as the supervisor of the treasury. Suddenly, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him), seeing a shadow the size of a strap, said: If your governor is a follower of the Sunnah of the Prophet, he will come right now. The narrator says: By Allah, Sayyiduna ‘Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud (may Allah be pleased with him) had not yet completed his statement when Sayyiduna ‘Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) arrived and said: Pray (perform the prayer).
Hadith 2728
عَنْ أَنَسٍ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الْجُمُعَةَ حِينَ تَمِيلُ الشَّمْسُ وَكَانَ إِذَا خَرَجَ إِلَى مَكَّةَ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ بِالشَّجَرَةِ سَجْدَتَيْنِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that when the sun would decline, the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, would perform the Friday prayer, and when he would set out towards Makkah Mukarramah, he would perform two units of Zuhr prayer at a tree near the place of Dhul-Hulaifah.
Hadith 2729
(وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ:) كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ الْجُمُعَةَ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ إِلَى الْقَائِلَةِ فَنَقِيلُ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that we used to perform the Friday prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then return to take a midday nap, and we would take a nap.
Hadith 2730
عَنْ أَبِي أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنِي عُقْبَةُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجُمُعَةَ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ فَنَقِيلُ، قَالَ أَبُو أَحْمَدَ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ إِلَى بَنِي سَلِمَةَ فَنَقِيلُ، وَهُوَ عَلَى مِيلَيْنِ
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We used to perform Jumu'ah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), then return and take a midday nap. Abu Ahmad, the narrator, said: Then we would reach Banu Salamah and take a midday nap, and this place was at a distance of two miles.
Hadith 2731
عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ جَابِرًا مَتَى كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الْجُمُعَةَ؟ فَقَالَ: كُنَّا نُصَلِّيهَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ فَنُرِيحُ نَوَاضِحَنَا، قَالَ جَعْفَرٌ: وَإِرَاحَةُ النَّوَاضِحِ حِينَ تَزُولُ الشَّمْسُ
Muhammad says: I asked Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) when did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform Jumu'ah? He said: We would perform Jumu'ah with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then return and let the camels rest. Ja'far, the narrator, says: Letting the camels rest would be at the time of the sun's decline.
Hadith 2732
عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ الرِّجَالَ تَقِيلُ وَتَتَغَدَّى بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi, may Allah be pleased with him, who says: I saw people that after Jumu’ah they would eat lunch and take a midday nap.
Hadith 2733
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) كُنَّا نَقِيلُ وَنَتَغَدَّى بَعْدَ الْجُمُعَةِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
(Second chain) They say: After performing Jumu'ah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we would take a midday nap and eat food.
Hadith 2734
عَنْ إِيَاسِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كُنَّا نُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْجُمُعَةَ ثُمَّ نَرْجِعُ فَلَا نَجِدُ لِلْحِيطَانِ فَيْئًا يُسْتَظَلُّ فِيهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Salamah bin Akwa’ (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We used to perform Jumu’ah with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and when we would return, we would not find enough shade from the walls to benefit from it.
