Hadith 2473
عَنْ نَافِعٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ نَادَى بِالصَّلَاةِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ ذَاتِ بَرْدٍ وَرِيحٍ، ثُمَّ قَالَ فِي آخِرِ نِدَائِهِ: أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ، أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ الْمُؤَذِّنَ إِذَا كَانَتْ لَيْلَةٌ بَارِدَةٌ أَوْ ذَاتُ رِيحٍ فِي السَّفَرِ أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ
Hazrat Nafi’ says: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the call to prayer on a cold and windy night, and at the end of the adhan he said: Beware! Pray in your tents, beware! Pray in your tents, beware! Pray in your tents. Then he explained that when the night was cold or windy during travel, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would instruct the mu’adhdhin to also say: Beware! Pray in your tents.
Hadith 2474
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: نَادَى ابْنُ عُمَرَ بِالصَّلَاةِ بِضَجْنَانَ ثُمَّ نَادَى أَنْ صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ، ثُمَّ حَدَّثَ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يَأْمُرُ الْمُنَادِيَ فَيُنَادِي بِالصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ يُنَادِي أَنْ صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ فِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْبَارِدَةِ وَفِي اللَّيْلَةِ الْمَطِيرَةِ فِي السَّفَرِ
(Second chain) They say: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the call to prayer (adhan) at Dajnan (a place or mountain), then he announced: Pray in your tents. Then he narrated that when there was a cold or rainy night during travel, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would instruct the muezzin to give the adhan and then announce: Pray in your tents.
Hadith 2475
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سَفَرٍ فَمُطِرْنَا، قَالَ: ((لِيُصَلِّ مَنْ شَاءَ مِنْكُمْ فِي رَحْلِهِ))
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: We set out on a journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), (along the way) it began to rain, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever wishes, may perform the prayer in his tent.
Hadith 2476
عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ أَوْسٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ حَدَّثَهُ مُؤَذِّنُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: نَادَى مُنَادِي النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي يَوْمٍ مَطِيرٍ: أَلَا صَلُّوا فِي الرِّحَالِ
A muezzin of the Messenger (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the muezzin of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) announced on a rainy day: Beware! Perform the prayer in your tents.
Hadith 2477
عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ النَّحَّامِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: نُودِيَ بِالصُّبْحِ فِي يَوْمٍ بَارِدٍ وَأَنَا فِي مِرْطِ امْرَأَتِي، فَقُلْتُ: لَيْتَ الْمُنَادِي قَالَ: مَنْ قَعَدَ فَلَا حَرَجَ عَلَيْهِ، فَنَادَى مُنَادِي النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي آخِرِ أَذَانِهِ: وَمَنْ قَعَدَ فَلَا حَرَجَ عَلَيْهِ
Sayyiduna Naeem bin Nahham (may Allah be pleased with him) says: It was a cold day and I was lying in my wife's sheet, when the call to Fajr prayer began. I said: I wish the caller to prayer would also say: There is no blame upon the one who does not come (for prayer). And it happened just like that, and the muezzin of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said at the end of the call to prayer: There is no blame upon the one who does not come.
Hadith 2478
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ مُؤَذِّنَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي لَيْلَةٍ بَارِدَةٍ وَأَنَا فِي لِحَافِي فَتَمَنَّيْتُ أَنْ يَقُولَ: صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغَ حَيَّ عَلَى الْفَلَاحِ، قَالَ: صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ، ثُمَّ سَأَلْتُ عَنْهَا فَإِذَا النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أَمَرَهُ بِذَلِكَ
(Second chain of narration) He says: It was a cold night and I was lying in my quilt when I heard the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace and blessings be upon him) muezzin giving the call to prayer. I wished that the muezzin would say: “Pray in your tents.” (And it happened as such, for) when he reached “Hayya ‘ala al-falah,” he said: “Pray in your dwellings.” Then, when I inquired about these (additional) words, I found out that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) had instructed him to say so.
Hadith 2479
عَنْ سَمْرَةَ بْنِ جُنْدُبِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ فِي يَوْمٍ مَطِيرٍ: ((الصَّلَاةُ فِي الرِّجَالِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) on the day of Hunain, on a rainy day, said: Perform the prayer in your tents.
Hadith 2480
عَنْ أَبِي الْمَلِيحِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ قَالَ: خَرَجْتُ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فِي لَيْلَةٍ مَطِيرَةٍ، فَلَمَّا رَجَعْتُ اسْتَفْتَحْتُ، فَقَالَ أَبِي: مَنْ هَٰذَا؟ قَالُوا: أَبُو الْمَلِيحِ، قَالَ: لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَصَابَتْنَا سَمَاءٌ لَمْ تَبُلَّ أَسَافِلَ نِعَالِنَا، فَنَادَى مُنَادِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ
Abu Malih bin Usamah says: On a rainy night, I went to the mosque, (offered the Isha prayer) and returned, and asked for the door to be opened. My father said: Who is this? The people said: This is Abu Malih. He said: We were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, at the occasion of Hudaybiyyah. We saw that (a light) rain fell, but even the lower parts of our shoes did not get wet. Yet the caller of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, announced: Pray in your tents.
Hadith 2481
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَنَّ يَوْمَ حُنَيْنٍ كَانَ مَطِيرًا، قَالَ: فَأَمَرَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مُنَادِيَهُ أَنِّ الصَّلَاةُ فِي الرِّحَالِ
(Second chain of narration) He narrates from his father: that on the day of Hunayn it was raining, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his muezzin to announce that the prayer would be performed in the tents.
Hadith 2482
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ أَظُنُّهُ رَفَعَهُ قَالَ: أَمَرَ مُنَادِيًا فَنَادَى فِي يَوْمٍ مَطِيرٍ أَنْ صَلُّوا فِي رِحَالِكُمْ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the muezzin on a rainy day to say: Perform the prayer in your tents.
Hadith 2483
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا تَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِذَا وُضِعَ الْعَشَاءُ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَابْدَئُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ))
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When dinner is served and the call for the establishment of prayer is also given, then eat the food first.
Hadith 2484
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِذَا حَضَرَ الْعَشَاءُ وَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَابْدَئُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ))
Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When dinner is served and it is also time for prayer, then eat the food first.
Hadith 2485
عَنْ نَافِعٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِذَا وُضِعَ الْعَشَاءُ وَأُقِيمَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَابْدَئُوا بِالْعَشَاءِ))، قَالَ: وَلَقَدْ تَعَشَّى ابْنُ عُمَرَ مَرَّةً وَهُوَ يَسْمَعُ قِرَاءَةَ الْإِمَامِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the evening meal is served and the prayer is also established, then eat the food first. Nafi’ says: Once Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was eating his evening meal and he was listening to the recitation of the Imam.
Hadith 2486
عَنْ مَوْهُوبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَزْهَرَ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُخَالِفُ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ: مَا يَحْمِلُكَ عَلَى هَٰذَا؟ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي صَلَاةً مَتَى تُوَافِقُهَا أُصَلِّي مَعَكَ وَمَتَى تُخَالِفُهَا أُصَلِّي وَأَنْقَلِبُ إِلَى أَهْلِي
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) used to stay behind (i.e., not pray with) Umar bin Abdul Aziz (may Allah have mercy on him) in prayer. (One day) Umar bin Abdul Aziz asked him: What makes you do this? He replied: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) praying; when you conform to that prayer, I pray with you, but when you differ from it, I perform the prayer (on time) and go home.
