بَابُ اخْتِلَافِ الصَّحَابَةِ فِيهَا وَفِيهِ فُصُولٌ
Chapter on the Disagreement of the Companions Regarding It, with Sections
Hadith 2273
عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: وَاللَّهِ مَا سَبَّحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى قَطُّ وَإِنِّي لَأُسَبِّحُهَا وَقَالَتْ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَتْرُكُ الْعَمَلَ وَهُوَ يُحِبُّ أَنْ يَعْمَلَهُ خَشْيَةَ أَنْ يَسْتَنَّ بِهِ النَّاسُ فَيُفْرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ، وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُحِبُّ مَا خَفَّ عَلَى النَّاسِ مِنَ الْفَرَائِضِ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says: By Allah! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) never performed the Duha (forenoon) voluntary prayers, but I used to perform this prayer. The real matter is that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), despite liking an action, would sometimes abandon it, because he feared that people would follow him and that action would become obligatory. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to make things easier for people regarding obligatory matters.
Hadith 2274
وَعَنْهَا أَيْضًا قَالَتْ: مَا سَبَّحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ سُبْحَةَ الضُّحَى فِي سَفَرٍ وَلَا حَضَرٍ
And it is also narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not perform the Duha prayer, neither during travel nor at home.
Hadith 2275
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ: مَا رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الضُّحَى إِلَّا أَنْ يَقْدَمَ مِنْ سَفَرٍ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says: I did not see the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing the Duha prayer, but when he (peace and blessings be upon him) would return from a journey, he would perform two units of prayer.
Hadith 2276
عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي بَيْتِي الضُّحَى أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ
Narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed four units (rak‘ahs) of Duha prayer in my house.
Hadith 2277
وَعَنْهَا أَيْضًا قَالَتْ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا كَمْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي الضُّحَى؟ قَالَتْ أَرْبَعَ رَكَعَاتٍ وَيَزِيدُ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ
Mu’adhah says: I asked Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) how many rak’ahs the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray for the Duha (forenoon) prayer. She said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray four rak’ahs, and would add more as Allah willed.
