Hadith 2209
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً يُوْتِرُ بِخَمْسٍ وَلَا يَجْلِسُ إِلَّا فِي الْخَامِسَةِ فَيُسَلِّمُ
It is narrated from Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray thirteen units of prayer at night, among which were five units of Witr prayer. He (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform these five units together, and after the fifth unit, he would sit for Tashahhud and then conclude with Salam.
Hadith 2210
(وَعَنْهَا مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي مِنَ اللَّيْلِ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً بِرَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْفَجْرِ قَبْلَ الصُّبْحِ، إِحْدَى عَشْرَةَ رَكْعَةً مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، سِتٌّ مِنْهَا مَثْنَى مَثْنَى وَيُوْتِرُ بِخَمْسٍ لَا يَقْعُدُ فِيهِنَّ
(Second chain) She says: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray thirteen rak‘ahs at night, which included the two sunnah rak‘ahs that he, peace and blessings be upon him, would pray after the rising of dawn and before the Fajr prayer. Thus, the total number of night rak‘ahs would be eleven. Out of these, he, peace and blessings be upon him, would perform six rak‘ahs in sets of two, and the five witr rak‘ahs he would perform in such a way that he would not sit (for the middle tashahhud).
Hadith 2211
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوْتِرُ بِسَبْعٍ وَبِخَمْسٍ لَا يُفْصِلُ بَيْنَهُنَّ بِسَلَامٍ وَلَا بِكَلَامٍ
Sayyida Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to perform seven and five rak'ahs of Witr, and he would not separate them with salam or speech.
Hadith 2212
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوْتِرُ بِتِسْعٍ حَتَّى إِذَا بَدُنَ وَكَثُرَ لَحْمُهُ أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فَقَرَأَ بِـ{إِذَا زُلْزِلَتْ} وَ{قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ}
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer nine (9) rak‘ahs of Witr, but when he became heavy and his flesh increased, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer seven Witr, and after the Witr, he would sit and perform two rak‘ahs, in which he would recite Surah Az-Zalzalah and Surah Al-Kafiroon.
Hadith 2213
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوْتِرُ بِتِسْعِ رَكَعَاتٍ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ فَلَمَّا ضَعُفَ أَوْتَرَ بِسَبْعٍ وَرَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform nine rak'ahs of Witr and would offer two rak'ahs sitting. When he became weak, he would perform seven Witr and offer two rak'ahs sitting.
Hadith 2214
وَعَنْهَا أَيْضًا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُصَلِّي تِسْعَ رَكَعَاتٍ، لَا يَقْعُدُ فِيهِنَّ إِلَّا عِنْدَ الثَّامِنَةِ، فَيَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيَذْكُرُهُ وَيَدْعُو، ثُمَّ يَنْهَضُ وَلَا يُسَلِّمُ، ثُمَّ يَصَلِّي التَّاسِعَةَ فَيَقْعُدُ يَحْمَدُ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ وَيَذْكُرُهُ وَيَدْعُو، ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمُ تَسْلِيمًا يُسْمِعُنَا، ثُمَّ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ
It is narrated from Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform nine units (rak‘ahs) of prayer, and after the eighth unit, he would sit and praise Allah Almighty, mention Him, and supplicate to Him. Then he would stand up without saying salam, thus performing the ninth unit, and then sit again and praise Allah Almighty, mention Him, and supplicate to Him, and then he would say salam in such a way that we could hear it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit and perform two units (rak‘ahs) of prayer.
Hadith 2215
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ قَالَ: سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ بِكَمْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوْتِرُ؟ قَالَتْ: بِأَرْبَعٍ وَثَلَاثٍ وَسِتٍّ وَثَلَاثٍ، وَثَمَانٍ وَثَلَاثٍ، وَعَشْرَةٍ وَثَلَاثٍ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ يُوْتِرُ بِأَكْثَرَ مِنْ ثَلَاثَ عَشْرَةَ، وَلَا أَنْقَصَ مِنْ سَبْعٍ وَكَانَ لَا يَدَعُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ
Abdullah bin Abi Qais says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), how many witr did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) pray? She said: Four and three, six and three, ten and three, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not pray less than seven or more than thirteen witr, and he never left the two rak'ahs (before Fajr).
Hadith 2216
عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَرْكَعُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ الْوِتْرِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ
It is narrated from Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to perform two rak‘ahs sitting after the Witr prayer.
Hadith 2217
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُفْصِلُ بَيْنَ الْوِتْرِ وَالشَّفْعِ بِتَسْلِيمَةٍ وَيُسْمِعُنَا إِيَّاهَا
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would separate between one and two rak‘ahs in (the three) witr by saying salam once, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) would also make us hear this salam.
Hadith 2218
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي الْحُجْرَةِ وَأَنَا فِي الْبَيْتِ فَيُفْصِلُ بَيْنَ الشَّفْعِ وَالْوِتْرِ بِتَسْلِيمٍ يُسْمِعُنَاهُ
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray in the chamber and I would be in the house. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) would separate the two and one rak'ah of Witr by saying salam, he would make us hear that salam.
Hadith 2219
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوْتِرُ بِتِسْعِ سُوَرٍ مِنَ الْمُفَصَّلِ، يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى {أَلْهَاكُمُ التَّكَاثُرُ} وَ{إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاهُ فِي لَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ} وَ{إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ} وَفِي الرَّكْعَةِ الثَّانِيَةِ {وَالْعَصْرِ} وَ{إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللَّهِ وَالْفَتْحُ} وَ{إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ} وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ {قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ} وَ{تَبَّتْ يَدَا أَبِي لَهَبٍ} وَ{قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite the Witr prayer with the Mufassal surahs. In the first rak'ah, he would recite {أَلْھَاکُمُ التَّکَاثُرُ … }, {إِنَّا أَنْزَلْنَاہُ فِیْ لَیْلَۃِ الْقَدْرِ … }, and {إِذَا زُلْزِلَتِ الْأَرْضُ … }; in the second rak'ah, { وَالْعَصْرِ … }, {إِذَا جَاءَ نَصْرُ اللّٰہِ وَالْفَتْحُ … }, and {إِنَّا أَعْطَیْنَاکَ الْکَوْثَرَ … }; and in the third rak'ah, {قُلْ یَاأَیُّہَا الْکَافِرُوْنَ … }, {تَبَّتْ یَدَا أَبِیْ لَھَبٍ … }, and {قُلْ ھُوَ اللّٰہُ أَحَدٌ … }.
Hadith 2220
عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبْزَى عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُوْتِرُ بِـ{سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} وَ{قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ} وَ{قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} وَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَنْصَرِفَ مِنَ الْوِتْرِ قَالَ: ((سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ)) ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، ثُمَّ يَرْفَعُ صَوْتَهُ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Abza that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la, Surah Al-Kafiroon, and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the Witr prayer, and when he finished the Witr, he would say "Subhana al-Malik al-Quddus" three times, raising his voice the third time.
Hadith 2221
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْوِتْرِ بِـ{سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} وَ{قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ} وَ{قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} وَكَانَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((سُبْحَانَ الْمَلِكِ الْقُدُّوسِ)) يُطَوِّلُهَا ثَلَاثًا
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to recite Surah Al-A'la, Surah Al-Kafiroon, and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the Witr prayer. When he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) finished with salam, he would say "Subhana'l-Malikil-Quddus" three times, elongating it the third time.
Hadith 2222
عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ جُرَيْجٍ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ أُمَّ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا: بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ يُوْتِرُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَتْ: كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَةِ الْأُولَى بِـ{سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} وَفِي الثَّانِيَةِ بِـ{قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ} وَفِي الثَّالِثَةِ بِـ{قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ} وَالْمُعَوِّذَتَيْنِ
Abdul Aziz bin Jurayj says: I asked Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) with what did the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recite in Witr? She said: In the first rak'ah he would recite Surah Al-A'la, in the second rak'ah Surah Al-Kafiroon, and in the third rak'ah Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Falaq, and Surah An-Nas.
Hadith 2223
عَنْ أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُوْتِرُ بِـ{سَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى} وَ{قُلْ يَا أَيُّهَا الْكَافِرُونَ} وَ{قُلْ هُوَ اللَّهُ أَحَدٌ}
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-A'la, Surah Al-Kafiroon, and Surah Al-Ikhlas in the Witr prayer.
Hadith 2224
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) has also narrated this type of hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
