Hadith 1997
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Buhaina (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up after two rak‘ahs of Zuhr and forgot to sit. Then, when he completed the prayer and was about to say salam, he performed two prostrations and then ended the prayer by saying salam. In another narration, it is mentioned: When he had performed the last two rak‘ahs, the people were waiting for him to say salam, so he said takbir and performed a prostration, then said takbir and performed a second prostration, and then said salam.
Hadith 1998
(Second chain) It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Buhaina (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in a prayer—we think it was Asr. It happened that after the second rak‘ah, instead of sitting, he stood up. When he was near to saying the salam, he performed two prostrations and the people also performed the prostrations. These (prostrations) were done because of forgetting to sit.
Hadith 1999
It is narrated from Yusuf, he says: Sayyiduna Muawiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) led them in prayer, that is, he acted as their imam. At one point, instead of sitting, he stood up. When the people said "Subhan Allah," he still stood up and continued the prayer. Then he performed two prostrations of forgetfulness (sujood as-sahw) while he was sitting after completing the prayer. Then he sat on the pulpit and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Whoever forgets something in the prayer should perform two prostrations in this manner.
Hadith 2000
Ziyad bin Alaqah said: Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) led us in prayer. After performing two rak’ahs, instead of sitting, he stood up. When the people said “Subhan Allah,” he gestured to them to stand up as well. When he was about to finish his prayer, he said the salam, then performed two prostrations, and then said the salam again. After that, he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did the same.
Hadith 2001
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Mughirah bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Zuhr or Asr prayer, and he stood up for the third rak‘ah (skipping the middle Tashahhud). When we said “Subhan Allah,” the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also said “Subhan Allah” to alert us and gestured for us to stand, so we also stood up. When he was about to finish his prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed two prostrations and said: If anyone remembers before standing up completely straight, he should sit down, and if he has already stood up completely straight, then he should not sit down.
