Chapter on the Imam Facing the People After Salam and the Companions Seeking Blessings from the Prophet
Hadith 1845
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ يَزِيدِ بْنِ الْأَسْوَدِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: حَجَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَجَّةَ الْوَدَاعِ قَالَ: فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ أَوِ الْفَجْرِ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ انْحَرَفَ جَالِسًا وَاسْتَقْبَلَ النَّاسَ بِوَجْهِهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ بِرَجُلَيْنِ مِنْ وَرَاءِ النَّاسِ لَمْ يُصَلِّيَا مَعَ النَّاسِ فَذَكَرَ قِصَّتَهُمَا قَالَ وَنَهَضَ النَّاسُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَهَضْتُ مَعَهُمْ وَأَنَا يَوْمَئِذٍ أَشَبُّ الرِّجَالِ وَأَجَلَدُهُمْ، قَالَ: فَمَا زِلْتُ أَزْحَمُ النَّاسَ حَتَّى وَصَلْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ فَوَضَعْتُهَا إِمَّا عَلَى وَجْهِي أَوْ صَدْرِي، قَالَ: فَمَا وَجَدْتُّ شَيْئًا أَطْيَبَ وَلَا أَبْرَدَ مِنْ يَدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ وَهُوَ يَوْمَئِذٍ فِي مَسْجِدِ الْخَيْفِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Yazid bin Aswad (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We performed the Farewell Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer, then he turned while sitting and sat facing the people. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw that there were two men at the back of the people who had not performed the prayer. The narrator described their whole story. People began to get up and move towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I also got up with them. At that time, I was the youngest and strongest among the people, so I kept pushing through the people until I reached the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). I took hold of his hand and placed it on my face or chest. I did not find anything more excellent and cooler than the hand of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in the Mosque of Khayf.
Hadith 1846
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: ثُمَّ ثَارَ النَّاسُ يَأْخُذُونَ بِيَدِهِ يَمْسَحُونَ بِهَا وُجُوهَهُمْ، قَالَ: فَأَخَذْتُ بِيَدِهِ فَمَسَحْتُ بِهَا وَجْهِي فَوَجَدْتُهَا أَبْرَدَ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ وَأَطْيَبَ رِيحًا مِنَ الْمِسْكِ
(Second chain) They say: Then the people stood up and began to take your hand and rub it on their faces. I also took your hand and placed it on my face, and I felt that it was cooler than ice and, in fragrance, finer than musk.
Hadith 1847
عَنْ أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْحَاجِرَةِ إِلَى الْبَطْحَاءِ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَصَلَّى الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَالْعَصْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ عَنَزَةٌ وَكَانَ يَمُرُّ مِنْ وَرَائِهَا الْحِمَارُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ ثُمَّ قَامَ النَّاسُ فَجَعَلُوا يَأْخُذُونَ يَدَهُ فَيَمْسَحُونَ بِهَا وُجُوهَهُمْ، قَالَ: فَأَخَذْتُ يَدَهُ فَوَضَعْتُهَا عَلَى وَجْهِي فَإِذَا هِيَ أَبْرَدُ مِنَ الثَّلْجِ وَأَطْيَبُ رِيحًا مِنَ الْمِسْكِ
Sayyiduna Abu Juhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out towards Batha at noon, performed ablution, and offered two rak‘ahs of Zuhr prayer and two rak‘ahs of ‘Asr prayer, while there was a spear (as a sutrah) in front of him, and behind it women and donkeys kept passing by. Then the people stood up and began to take hold of the Prophet’s hand and rub it on their faces. I also took hold of his hand and placed it on my face (and felt that) it was cooler than ice and more fragrant than musk.
