Hadith 1776
Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us the Tashahhud in the middle and at the end of the prayer. Aswad bin Yazid says: We used to remember (revise) it with Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) when he informed us that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had taught him the Tashahhud. So he used to say: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would sit on his left buttock in the middle and at the end of the prayer, he would recite: “All greetings, prayers, and pure things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.” Then, if he was in the middle of the prayer, after finishing the Tashahhud, he would stand up (for the third rak’ah), and if he was at the end of the prayer, he would supplicate as much as Allah willed, then he would say the salam (to end the prayer). The translation of the Tashahhud: All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship are only for Allah. O Prophet: May Allah’s peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I (also) bear witness that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is Allah’s servant and Messenger.
Hadith 1777
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took his hand and, while teaching the tashahhud recited in prayer, said: Say: “At-tahiyyatu lillah … … anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluhu” (he mentioned the tashahhud as in the previous hadith). Then he said: When you have completed this, you have completed your prayer; if you wish to stand, then stand, and if you wish to remain seated, then remain seated.
Hadith 1778
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Indeed, Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was taught the initial, comprehensive, and concluding matters of goodness and virtue, while we did not know what to say in prayer (Tashahhud). He (peace and blessings be upon him) taught us this and said: When you sit after two rak'ahs, recite: "At-tahiyyatu lillah... ‘abduhu wa rasuluhu." Then each of you should choose any supplication he likes and call upon his Lord with it.
Hadith 1779
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him the Tashahhud and also instructed him to teach it to the people:
((All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.))
Hadith 1780
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) taught me this Tashahhud as he would teach me a surah of the Qur’an, while my palm was between his two palms: “All greetings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.” When he was among us (we used to say: ‘Peace be upon you, O Prophet’), but when he (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away, we used to say: ‘Peace be upon the Prophet.’
Hadith 1781
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: When we used to sit in prayer with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we would say: “Peace be upon Allah from His servants, peace be upon so-and-so and so-and-so.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not say, “Peace be upon Allah,” for Allah Himself is Peace. (From now on) when any one of you sits (in prayer), he should say: “All greetings, prayers, and good things are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah.” When you say this supplication, it will reach every worshipper between the heavens and the earth. “I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger.” Then each one of you should choose any supplication he likes and call upon Allah with it.
Hadith 1782
(In another chain) It is stated: When we would sit in prayer with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, we would say: Peace be upon Allah from His servants, peace be upon Jibreel, peace be upon Mika’eel, peace be upon so-and-so. (Peace be upon Allah from His servants, peace be upon Jibreel, peace be upon Mika’eel, peace be upon so-and-so, ... ... . Then as in the first hadith.)
Hadith 1783
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to teach us the Tashahhud just as he would teach us the Qur’an. He (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say: “All greetings, blessings, prayers, and pure words are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.”
Translation of Tashahhud: All verbal, physical, and financial acts of worship full of blessings are only for Allah. O Prophet: Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah (as well). I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah.
Hadith 1784
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him), who reports a hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), in which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught him the prayer, until he said: When any of you is in the sitting position (Qa'dah), let him first say:
"All greetings, pure words, and prayers are for Allah. Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of Allah. I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger."
