It is narrated from Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to observe two pauses: one pause when he began the prayer, and the second, when he completed the recitation of the second surah before bowing (ruku‘). Later, when this hadith was mentioned before Sayyiduna Imran bin Husain (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: "Samurah has spoken incorrectly," and according to another narration, he said: "I do not remember such a thing from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)." Then he wrote regarding this matter to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka‘b (may Allah be pleased with him), who was in Madinah, and he replied that Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) had spoken the truth.

. (Second chain) When Sayyiduna Samurah bin Jundub (may Allah be pleased with him) led the people in prayer, he would observe two pauses: when he began the prayer and when he said {وَلَاالضَّالِّین}, he would also remain silent for a while. When the people objected to this, he wrote (a letter) to Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), who replied that indeed the matter is exactly as Sayyiduna Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) has done.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would say Allahu Akbar for prayer, he would remain silent between the takbeer and the recitation. I asked: May my parents be sacrificed for you, please tell me about your silence between the takbeer and the recitation, what is its reality? He, peace and blessings be upon him, said: I recite this supplication: Translation of the supplication: O Allah! Put distance between me and my sins as You have put distance between the East and the West. O Allah! Purify me of my sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O Allah! Wash away my sins with water, snow, and hail.
