Hadith 1538
عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: أَلَا أُصَلِّي لَكُمْ صَلَاةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَ: فَصَلَّى فَلَمْ يَرْفَعْ يَدَيْهِ إِلَّا مَرَّةً
It is narrated from Alqamah that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Shall I not perform for you the prayer of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)? Then he performed the prayer and raised his hands only once.
Hadith 1539
عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ بْنِ عَازِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا افْتَتَحَ الصَّلَاةَ رَفَعَ يَدَيْهِ حَتَّى تَكُونَ إِبْهَامَاهُ حِذَاءَ أُذُنَيْهِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Bara’ bin ‘Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would begin the prayer, he would raise his hands until his thumbs would be in line with his ears.
Hadith 1540
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: إِنَّ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ وَضْعَ الْأَكُفِّ عَلَى الْأَكُفِّ تَحْتَ السُّرَّةِ
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that placing the palms of the hands over each other below the navel in prayer is Sunnah.
Hadith 1541
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: مَرَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِرَجُلٍ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي وَقَدْ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ الْيُسْرَى عَلَى الْيُمْنَى فَانْتَزَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) passed by a man who was performing prayer, and he had placed his left hand over his right hand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took out his hand and placed the right over the left.
Hadith 1542
عَنْ قَبِيصَةَ بْنِ حُلْبٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَؤُمُّنَا فَيَأْخُذُ شِمَالَهُ بِيَمِينِهِ، وَكَانَ يَنْصَرِفُ عَنْ جَانِبَيْهِ جَمِيعًا عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ
Qabeesah bin Hulb narrates from his father, who says that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to lead us in prayer. He would hold his left hand with his right, and after concluding the prayer (by saying salam), he would sometimes turn to the right side and sometimes to the left side.
Hadith 1543
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاضِعًا يَمِينَهُ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ، وَرَأَيْتُهُ يَنْصَرِفُ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ
(Second chain) He says: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, placing his right hand over his left in prayer, and I also saw that after finishing the prayer, he would turn to the right side as well as to the left side.
Hadith 1544
(وَفِي لَفْظٍ) وَرَأَيْتُهُ يَنْصَرِفُ مَرَّةً عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَمَرَّةً عَنْ شِمَالِهِ
And the words of another narration are as follows: I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that sometimes he would turn to the right side and occasionally to the left side.
Hadith 1545
عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ سَهْلِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: كَانَ النَّاسُ يُؤْمَرُونَ أَنْ يَضَعُوا الْيُمْنَى عَلَى الْيُسْرَى فِي الصَّلَاةِ، قَالَ أَبُو حَازِمٍ: وَلَا أَعْلَمُ إِلَّا يَنْمِي ذَلِكَ، قَالَ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ: يَنْمِي يَرْفَعُهُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) that people were instructed to place the right hand over the left hand during prayer. Abu Hazim says: I do not know except that they attributed it. Abu Abdur Rahman says: That is, when narrating it as marfu‘, they attributed it to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him).
Hadith 1546
عَنْ غَضِيفِ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ قَالَ: مَا نَسِيتُ مِنَ الْأَشْيَاءِ، مَا نَسِيتُ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ لَمْ أَنْسَ) أَنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَاضِعًا يَمِينَهُ عَلَى شِمَالِهِ فِي الصَّلَاةِ
Sayyiduna Ghudayf bin Harith رضي الله عنه says: (Of whatever I heard or saw from you صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم), I have not forgotten anything, I have not even forgotten that I saw the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم with his right hand placed over his left hand in prayer.
