بَابُ افْتِتَاحِ الصَّلَاةِ وَالْخُشُوعِ فِيهَا
Chapter on Opening the Prayer and Humility Within It
Hadith 1524
عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مِفْتَاحُ الصَّلَاةِ الطَّهُورُ وَتَحْرِيمُهَا التَّكْبِيرُ وَتَحْلِيلُهَا التَّسْلِيمُ (وَفِي لَفْظٍ) مِفْتَاحُ الصَّلَاةِ الْوُضُوءُ وَتَحْرِيمُهَا التَّكْبِيرُ وَتَحْلِيلُهَا التَّسْلِيمُ))
Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The key to prayer is ablution, its sanctification is saying Allahu Akbar, and its conclusion is the greeting of peace. And in another narration, the words are: The key to prayer is ablution, its sanctification is saying Allahu Akbar, and its conclusion is turning for the greeting of peace.
Hadith 1525
عَنِ الْفَضْلِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((الصَّلَاةُ مَثْنَى مَثْنَى، تَشَهَّدُ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ وَتَضَرَّعُ وَتَخَشَّعُ وَتَمَسْكَنُ ثّمَّ تُقْنِعُ يَدَيْكَ تَقُولُ تَرْفَعَهُمَا إِلَى رَبِّكَ مُسْتَقْبِلًا بِبُطُونِهِمَا وَجْهَكَ، تَقُولُ يَا رَبِّ! يَا رَبِّ! فَمَنْ لَمْ يَفْعَلْ ذَلِكَ … )) فَقَالَ فِيهِ قَوْلًا شَدِيدًا
Sayyiduna Fadl bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Prayer is in sets of two rak‘ahs; in every two rak‘ahs, recite the tashahhud, show humility, adopt submissiveness, and express poverty. Then raise your hands towards your Lord, with the inner part of your palms facing your face, and say: O my Lord! O my Lord! Whoever does not do so, he... (Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said something severe about him.)
Hadith 1526
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((هَلْ تَرَوْنَ قِبْلَتِي هَٰهُنَا؟ مَا يَخْفَى عَلَيَّ شَيْءٌ مِنْ خُشُوعِكُمْ وَرُكُوعِكُمْ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Do you think my qiblah is here (in front of me)? (Remember that) nothing of your humility and bowing is hidden from me.
Hadith 1527
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنِّي لَأَرَى خُشُوعَكُمْ
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Indeed, I see your humility.
Hadith 1528
عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: انْتَهَيْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي وَلِصَدْرِهِ أَزِيزٌ كَأَزِيزِ الْمِرْجَلِ
Mutarrif narrates from his father, and he says: I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was praying, and from his chest there was a sound like the boiling of a pot.
Hadith 1529
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَفِي صَدْرِهِ أَزِيزٌ كَأَزِيزِ الْمِرْجَلِ مِنَ الْبُكَاءِ
(Second chain of narration) He says: I saw the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and due to his weeping, a sound like that of a boiling pot was coming from his chest.
Hadith 1530
عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ صَلَّى سَجْدَتَيْنِ لَا يَسْهُو فِيهِمَا غَفَرَ اللَّهُ لَهُ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِهِ))
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Khalid al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Whoever performs two rak‘ahs and is not heedless in them, Allah forgives all his past sins.
