بَابُ سُتْرَةُ الْإِمَامِ سُتْرَةٌ لِمَنْ صَلَّى خَلْفَهُ وَأَنَّهُ لَا يَقْطَعُ الصَّلَاةَ مُرُورُ شَيْءٍ
Chapter on the Sutrah of the Imam Being a Sutrah for Those Praying Behind, and That Passing Does Not Invalidate the Prayer
Hadith 1500
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: جِئْتُ أَنَا وَالْفَضْلُ وَنَحْنُ عَلَى أَتَانٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ بِعَرَفَةَ فَمَرَرْنَا عَلَى بَعْضِ الصَّفِّ فَنَزَلْنَا عَنْهَا وَتَرَكْنَاهَا تَرْتَعُ وَدَخَلْنَا فِي الصَّفِّ فَلَمْ يَقُلْ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ شَيْئًا
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I and Fadl came riding on a donkey, while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was leading the people in prayer at Arafah. We passed in front of part of the row, dismounted from it, left it to graze, and joined the row. Upon this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not say anything to us.
Hadith 1501
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) قَالَ: أَقْبَلْتُ وَقَدْ نَاهَزْتُ الْحُلْمَ أَسِيرُ عَلَى أَتَانٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَائِمٌ يُصَلِّي لِلنَّاسِ يَعْنِي حَتَّى صِرْتُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْ بَعْضِ الصَّفِّ الْأَوَّلِ ثُمَّ نَزَلْتُ عَنْهَا فَرَتَعَتْ فَصَفَفْتُ مَعَ النَّاسِ وَرَاءَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ
(Second chain) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, says: I came riding on a donkey, at that time I was near the age of puberty. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was leading the people in prayer. In this state, I reached in front of a part of the first row, dismounted there, the donkey began to graze, and I stood in the row with the people following the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
Hadith 1503
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا أَنَّهُ كَانَ عَلَى حِمَارٍ هُوَ وَغُلَامٌ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ فَمَرَّ بَيْنَ يَدَيِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَلَمْ يَنْصَرِفْ، وَجَاءَتْ جَارِيَتَانِ مِنْ بَنِي عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ فَأَخَذَتَا بِرُكْبَتَيِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَفَرَّعَ بَيْنَهُمَا أَوْ فَرَّقَ بَيْنَهُمَا وَلَمْ يَنْصَرِفْ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) also narrates: He says that he and a boy from Banu Hashim were on a donkey, and that donkey passed in front of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was performing prayer, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not break his prayer. Meanwhile, two girls from Banu Abdul Muttalib came and held the knees of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) separated them and did not break his prayer.
Hadith 1505
عَنِ الْحَسَنِ الْعُرَنِيِّ قَالَ: ذُكِرَ عِنْدَ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا يَقْطَعُ الصَّلَاةَ الْكَلْبُ وَالْحِمَارُ وَالْمَرْأَةُ، قَالَ: بِئْسَمَا عَدَلْتُمْ بِامْرَأَةٍ مُسْلِمَةٍ كَلْبًا وَحِمَارًا، لَقَدْ رَأَيْتُنِي أَقْبَلْتُ عَلَى حِمَارٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِللنَّاسِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنْتُ قَرِيبًا مِنْهُ مُسْتَقْبِلَهُ نَزَلْتُ عَنْهُ وَخَلَّيْتُ عَنْهُ وَدَخَلْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَمَا أَعَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاتَهُ وَلَا نَهَانِي عَمَّا صَنَعْتُ، وَلَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي بِالنَّاسِ فَجَاءَتْ وَلِيدَةٌ تَخَلَّلُتِ الصُّفُوفَ حَتَّى عَاذَتْ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَا أَعَادَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَاتَهُ وَلَا نَهَاهَا عَمَّا صَنَعَتْ، وَلَقَدْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي فِي مَسْجِدٍ فَخَرَجَ جَدْيٌ مِنْ بَعْضِ حُجَرَاتِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَذَهَبَ يَجْتَازُ بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ فَمَنَعَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ، قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسِ: أَفَلَا تَقُولُونَ: الْجَدْيُ يَقْطَعُ الصَّلَاةَ؟
Hasan Arni, may Allah have mercy on him, says: It was mentioned to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, that a dog, a donkey, and a woman break the prayer. He said: It is a bad thing that you have equated a Muslim woman with a dog and a donkey. I have seen myself that I came riding on a donkey while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was leading the people in prayer. When I came near in front of him, I got down from it and left it, and joined the prayer with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, neither repeated his prayer nor forbade me from doing so. And once it happened that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was leading the people in prayer when a girl came passing through the rows and sought refuge with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Even then, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, neither repeated his prayer nor forbade her from doing so. Another incident is that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was praying in the mosque when a kid goat came out from one of his chambers and began to pass in front of him, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, stopped it. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with him, says: Now why do you not say that a kid goat breaks the prayer?
