بَابُ فِي الصَّلَاةِ عَلَى الْحَصِيرِ وَالْبُسُطِ وَالْفِرَاءِ وَالْخُمْرَةِ
Chapter on Praying on Mats, Carpets, Furs, and Small Prayer Rugs
Hadith 1437
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى حَصِيرٍ
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed on a small mat.
Hadith 1438
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: صَنَعَ بَعْضُ عَمُومَتِي لِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ طَعَامًا فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! إِنِّي أُحِبُّ أَنْ تَأْكُلَ فِي بَيْتِي، قَالَ: فَأَتَاهُ وَفِي الْبَيْتِ فَحْلٌ مِنْ تِلْكَ الْفُحُولِ، فَأَمَرَ بِجَانِبٍ مِنْهُ فَكُنِسَ وَرُشَّ فَصَلَّى وَصَلَّيْنَا مَعَهُ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) says that one of my uncles prepared food for the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and came to him saying, "O Messenger of Allah! I wish that you eat food at my house." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went to him. In the house, there was a mat made of date-palm leaves lying there. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered regarding one side of it, so it was cleaned and water was sprinkled on it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed on it, and we also performed prayer with him.
Hadith 1439
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ رُبَمَا تَحْضُرُهُ الصَّلَاةُ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتِنَا فَيَأْمُرُ بِالْبِسَاطِ الَّذِي تَحْتَهُ فَيُكْنَسُ ثُمَّ يُنْضَحُ بِالْمَاءِ ثُمَّ يَقُومُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَقُومُ خَلْفَهُ فَيُصَلِّي بِنَا قَالَ: وَكَانَ بِسَاطُهُمْ مِنْ جَرِيدِ النَّخْلِ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) would sometimes come to our house. If the time for prayer arrived, he would order that mat which was beneath him, so it would be cleaned and water would be sprinkled on it. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) would stand on it and we would stand behind him, and he would lead us in prayer. This mat of theirs was made from palm leaves.
Hadith 1440
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى عَلَى بِسَاطٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed on a mat.
Hadith 1441
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ صَلَّى فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ حَرَامٍ عَلَى بِسَاطٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, performed prayer on a mat in the house of Umm Haram.
Hadith 1442
عَنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنِ شُعْبَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي أَوْ يَسْتَحِبُّ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ عَلَى فَرْوَةٍ مَدْبُوغَةٍ
Sayyiduna Mughira bin Shu’bah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray on tanned leather or liked to pray on it.
Hadith 1443
عَنْ مَيْمُونَةَ زَوْجِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَتْ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الْخُمْرَةِ فَيَسْجُدُ فَيُصِيبُنِي ثَوْبُهُ وَأَنَا إِلَى جَنْبِهِ وَأَنَا حَائِضٌ
The wife of the Messenger, Sayyida Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her), says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to pray on a sheet, while I would be beside him in a state of menstruation. When he prostrated, his garment would keep touching me.
Hadith 1444
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي عَلَى الْخُمْرَةِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray on a cloak.
