Chapter on Places Where Prayer is Prohibited and Permitted
Hadith 1419
Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((كُلُّ الْأَرْضِ مَسْجِدٌ وَطَهُورٌ إِلَّا الْمَقْبَرَةَ وَالْحَمَّامَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: All of the earth is a mosque and a purifier, except for graveyards and bathhouses.
Hadith 1420
عَنْ أَبِي مَرْثَدٍ الْغَنَوِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((لَا تُصَلُّوا إِلَى الْقُبُورِ وَلَا تَجْلِسُوا عَلَيْهَا (وَفِي لَفْظٍ) لَا تَجْلِسُوا عَلَى الْقُبُورِ وَلَا تُصَلُّوا عَلَيْهَا))
Sayyiduna Abu Marthad Ghanawi (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Do not pray towards graves and do not sit on them. And in another narration, the words are: Do not sit on graves and do not pray on them.
Hadith 1421
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ وَلَا يُصَلِّي فِي مَرَابِضِ الْإِبِلِ وَالْبَقَرِ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray in sheepfolds, but he would not pray in the enclosures of camels and cows.
Hadith 1422
عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((إِذَا لَمْ تَجِدُوا إِلَّا مَرَابِضَ الْغَنَمِ وَمَعَاطِنَ الْإِبِلِ فَصَلُّوا فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ وَلَا تُصَلُّوا فِي مَعَاطِنِ الْإِبِلِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When you do not find any place except the enclosures of goats and camels, then perform prayer in the enclosures of goats, but do not perform prayer in the enclosures of camels.
Hadith 1423
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ ثَنَا عَبْدُ الْمَلِكِ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سَبْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ (سَبْرَةَ بْنِ مَعْبَدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ
Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Ma’bad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 1424
عَنِ ابْنِ مُغَفَّلِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((إِذَا حَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَأَنْتُمْ فِي مَرَابِضِ الْغَنَمِ فَصَلُّوا، وَإِذَا حَضَرَتْ وَأَنْتُمْ فِي أَعْطَانِ الْإِبِلِ فَلَا تُصَلُّوا، فَإِنَّهَا خُلِقَتْ مِنَ الشَّيَاطِينَ))
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When the time for prayer comes and you are in sheep enclosures, then perform the prayer there. But when the time for prayer comes and you are in camel enclosures, then do not perform the prayer there, because they have been created from devils.
Hadith 1425
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((لَا تُصَلُّوا فِي عُطُنِ الْإِبِلِ فَإِنَّهَا مِنَ الْجِنِّ خُلِقَتْ، أَلَا تَرَوْنَ عُيُونَهَا وَهِبَابَهَا إِذَا نَفَرَتْ، وَصَلُّوا فِي مُرَاحِ الْغَنَمِ فَإِنَّهَا هِيَ أَقْرَبُ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do not pray in camel enclosures, because they have been created from jinn; when they become agitated, do you not see their eyes and alertness? However, you may pray in sheep enclosures, for they are closer to mercy.
