Hadith 1340
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: When any of you spits or clears his throat in the mosque, he should conceal it, lest it may fall on the body or clothes of a believer and cause him harm.
Hadith 1341
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was praying in the mosque when he saw some phlegm in the direction of the qiblah. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) finished the prayer, he said: When any of you prays in the mosque, he is conversing with his Lord, and Allah, Blessed and Exalted, is before him. Therefore, none of you should spit in the direction of the qiblah or to his right side. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a piece of wood, scraped it off, and then called for some perfume and applied it there.
Hadith 1342
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you spits in the mosque, he should bury it; if he cannot do so, then he should spit into his garment.
Hadith 1343
Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some phlegm in the direction of the qiblah in the mosque and scraped it off with a pebble. Then he forbade a man from spitting in front of himself or to his right side, and said: A person should spit to his left side or beneath his left foot.
Hadith 1344
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) liked to hold date palm twigs in his hand. One day, he had such a twig in his hand when he entered the mosque. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some phlegm in the direction of the qiblah in the mosque, so he scraped it off until he cleaned it. Then, turning to the people in a state of anger, he said: "Does any one of you like that a man should come and spit on his face?" (Consider that) when any of you stands for prayer, his Lord is in front of him and an angel is on his right side, (therefore) he should not spit in front of him or to his right, rather he should spit under his left foot or to his left side. If he is in a hurry, then he should do so in this manner." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) rubbed one part of his garment with another part. And the narrator of the hadith, Yahya, (explaining this example) spat into his garment and rubbed it.
Hadith 1345
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Spitting in the mosque is a sin, and its expiation is to bury it.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: When any one of you is in prayer, he is whispering to his Lord, so no person should spit to his right side. The words of Ibn Ja'far's narration are: He should not spit in front of him or to his right side, but should spit to his left side or beneath his feet.
Hadith 1347
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Spitting in the mosque is an evil, and burying it is a good deed.
Hadith 1348
Abu Sa‘d says that I saw Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa‘ (may Allah be pleased with him) praying in the mosque of Damascus. He spat under his left foot and rubbed it with his foot. When he finished, I said: "You are among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you are spitting in the mosque?" So Sayyiduna Wathilah (may Allah be pleased with him) replied that he had seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) doing the same.
Hadith 1349
Sayyiduna Abu Sahla Sa’ib bin Khallad رضي الله عنه narrates that a man was leading the people in prayer while the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم was watching him. During the prayer, he spat in the direction of the qiblah. When he finished, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said: This person should not lead you in prayer again. Later, when he intended to lead the prayer, the people stopped him and informed him of the statement of the Messenger of Allah He mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, and he صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم said to him: Yes, (I forbade you) because you have offended Allah Almighty.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My Ummah was presented before me with their good and bad deeds. Among their good deeds, I saw the removal of something harmful from the road, and among their bad deeds, I saw spitting phlegm in the mosque without burying it.
Hadith 1351
Sayyiduna Tariq bin Abdullah narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you pray, do not spit in front of you or to your right side; rather, spit to your left side, provided it is empty (i.e., there is no worshipper praying on that side). Otherwise, lift your foot and (spit beneath it and) rub it in.
