Hadith 1303
Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid رضي الله عنه narrates that during the time of the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar رضي الله عنهما, there used to be only one mu’adhdhin for Jumu’ah and all other prayers, until Sayyiduna Uthman رضي الله عنه became the caliph. Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid رضي الله عنه says that on the day of Jumu’ah, when the Messenger صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم would sit on the pulpit, Sayyiduna Bilal رضي الله عنه would call the adhan, and when the Prophet صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم would descend, Sayyiduna Bilal رضي الله عنه would call the iqamah.
Hadith 1304
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’ib bin Yazid (may Allah be pleased with him) that during the times of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Abu Bakr, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), there used to be two calls for Friday (the adhan and the iqamah). Then the era of Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and when the number of people increased, Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered an additional adhan to be given at the place called Zawra.
Hadith 1305
A man from Banu Thaqif informed Sayyiduna Umar bin Aws (may Allah be pleased with him) that on a rainy day, he heard the Mu’adhdhin of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, after “Hayya ‘ala as-Salah, Hayya ‘ala al-Falah”: “Sallu fi rihalikum” (Pray in your homes).
