Mawla Abdullah bin Umar Yasar says: Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw me praying after the rising of dawn and said: Yasar! How many prayers have you performed? I said: I do not know. He said: Then you should not know, indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to us while we were performing this prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Beware! Let those present convey this to those who are absent, that after the rising of dawn there is no prayer except for two rak‘ahs.

Huyayy bin Ya'la bin Umayyah says: I saw Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) praying before sunrise. A man said to him: You are among the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and you are praying before sunrise? Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: Indeed, the sun rises between the two horns of Satan. Then Sayyiduna Ya'la (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Now, if at the time of sunrise you are engaged in the command of Allah, then this is better than the sun rising while you are heedless.
