بَابٌ فِي وَعِيدِ مَنْ تَرَكَ الْعَصْرَ أَوْ أَخَّرَهَا عَنْ وَقْتِهَا
Chapter on the Warning Against Missing Asr or Delaying It from Its Time
Hadith 1142
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((مَنْ تَرَكَ الْعَصْرَ (وَفِي لَفْظٍ: الَّذِي تَفُوتُهُ صَلَاةُ الْعَصْرِ) مُتَعَمِّدًا حَتَّى تَغْرُبَ الشَّمْسُ فَكَأَنَّمَا وَتِرَ أَهْلُهُ وَمَالُهُ)) زَادَ فِي رِوَايَةٍ: وَقَالَ شَيْبَانُ (أَحَدُ الرُّوَاةِ): يَعْنِي غُلِبَ عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَمَالِهِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever deliberately abandons the Asr prayer—in another narration: whoever misses the Asr prayer until the sun sets—it is as if his family and wealth have been taken away from him. Shaiban says: That is, his family and wealth have been overpowered.
Hadith 1143
عَنْ أَبِي الدَّرْدَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((مَنْ تَرَكَ صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ مُتَعَمِّدًا حَتَّى تَفُوتَهُ فَقَدْ أُحْبِطَ عَمَلُهُ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Darda (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever deliberately leaves the Asr prayer until it is missed, the deeds of such a person are rendered void.
Hadith 1144
عَنِ الْعَلَاءِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ قَالَ: دَخَلْنَا عَلَى أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَا وَرَجُلٌ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ حِينَ صَلَّيْنَا الظُّهْرَ، فَدَعَا الْجَارِيَةَ بِوَضُوءٍ فَقُلْنَا لَهُ: أَيُّ صَلَاةٍ تُصَلِّي؟ قَالَ: الْعَصْرَ، قَالَ: قُلْنَا: إِنَّمَا صَلَّيْنَا الظُّهْرَ الْآنَ، فَقَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((تِلْكَ صَلَاةُ الْمُنَافِقِ، يَتْرُكُ الصَّلَاةَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ فِي قَرْنَيِ الشَّيْطَانِ أَوْ بَيْنَ قَرْنَيِ الشَّيْطَانِ صَلَّى لَا يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ فِيهَا إِلَّا قَلِيلًا))
Ala bin Abdur Rahman says: I and an Ansari man, after performing the Zuhr prayer, went to Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him). He asked a girl to bring water for ablution. We asked: Which prayer are you about to perform? He said: Asr prayer. We said: We have just now performed the Zuhr prayer. He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This is the prayer of the hypocrite, that he keeps delaying the prayer until the sun comes between the two horns of Satan, then he performs the prayer and remembers Allah very little.
Hadith 1145
((وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) بِنَحْوِهِ وَفِيهِ: قَالَ أَنَسٌ) تِلْكَ صَلَاةُ الْمُنَافِقِينَ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ، يَجْلِسُ أَحَدُهُمْ حَتَّى إِذَا اصْفَرَّتِ الشَّمْسُ وَكَانَتْ بَيْنَ قَرْنَيْ شَيْطَانٍ قَامَ نَقَرَ أَرْبَعًا لَا يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ فِيهَا إِلَّا قَلِيلًا
. (Second chain) A similar narration is there; however, in it: Sayyiduna Anas (RA) said: This is the prayer of the hypocrites, he repeated these words three times, a man remains sitting until the sun becomes yellow and comes between the two horns of Satan, then he stands up and pecks four times and remembers Allah very little.
Hadith 1146
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((أَلَا أُخْبِرُكُمْ بِصَلَاةِ الْمُنَافِقِ؟ يَدَعُ الْعَصْرَ حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَتْ بَيْنَ قَرْنَيِ الشَّيْطَانِ أَوْ عَلَى قَرْنَيِ الشَّيْطَانِ قَامَ فَنَقَرَهَا نَقَرَاتِ الدِّيكِ لَا يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ فِيهَا إِلَّا قَلِيلًا))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not inform you about the prayer of a hypocrite? He delays the Asr prayer until the sun is between the two horns of Satan, then he stands and pecks like a rooster, and remembers Allah very little.
