Sayyida had bequeathed this house to him. When he would perform the Friday prayer, a mat and so on would be spread for him in this house, so he would go to this house and sit for the people. One day, a man asked him about performing ablution after eating food cooked on fire, while I was listening. Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) raised his hand to his eyes, as he had become blind at that time, and said: These eyes of mine have seen, I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) perform ablution in a chamber, then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) called him for prayer and he set out, but when he reached the door of the chamber, a gift of bread and meat was received by him, which a companion had sent to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) returned with his companions, the food was laid out in the chamber, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions ate, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out with his companions for prayer, and neither the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) nor any of his companions touched water, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led the people in prayer. I then brought water (thinking that) he (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform ablution again, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked me and said: Move back. By Allah! This was very hard on me. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) led the prayer. I presented my complaint before Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (that this happened to me today). Sayyiduna ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Your rebuking of Mughirah was very hard on him, and he fears that you may have something in your heart about him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: There is nothing in my heart about him except good. The real matter is that he brought water for my ablution, whereas I had only eaten food. Now, if I had performed ablution, then people after me would have also considered it necessary.
