Hadith 725
Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
Hammam says: Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) urinated, then performed ablution and wiped over his socks. Someone said to him: "You are wiping (over the socks), even though you have urinated?" He replied: "Yes, because I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) urinate, then perform ablution and wipe over his socks." Ibrahim says: People liked this hadith very much, because Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) accepted Islam after the revelation of Surah Al-Ma'idah.
Hadith 726
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped over the leather socks (khuffs), this is correct, but ask those people whether the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wiped before the revelation of Surah Al-Ma'idah or after it. By Allah, he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not wipe after Surah Al-Ma'idah. I prefer, rather than wiping over the leather socks, to wipe my hand over the back of a traveler in the wilderness.
Hadith 727
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I saw Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) in Iraq that when he performed ablution, he would wipe over his leather socks. I objected to this action of his. Then it happened that when we gathered in the presence of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), he said to me: Regarding your objection to wiping over the leather socks, ask your father about it. So I mentioned this matter to my father, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), and he replied: When Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) tells you something, do not reject it, because indeed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to wipe over the leather socks.
Hadith 728
Nafi’ reports: Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) saw Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) wiping over his leather socks and said: Do you people also perform this wiping? He replied: Yes. Then, when we gathered in the presence of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Commander of the Faithful! Give a verdict to my nephew (Ibn Umar) regarding wiping over leather socks. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We used to wipe over the leather socks along with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Even if a person comes after relieving himself of urine and stool? Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Yes, even if he comes after urinating and defecating. After that, Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) would continue to wipe over his leather socks as long as he did not remove them, and he did not specify any particular duration for this.
