بَابٌ فِي غَسْلِ الْيَدَيْنِ إِلَى الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ وَتَطْوِيلِ الْغُرَّةِ وَتَخْلِيلِ الْأَصَابِعِ وَالدَّلْكِ
Chapter on Washing the Hands up to the Elbows, Extending the Brightness, Interlacing the Fingers, and Rubbing
Hadith 653
عَنْ أَبِي زُرْعَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ دَعَا بِوَضُوءٍ فَتَوَضَّأَ وَغَسَلَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ حَتَّى جَاوَزَ الْمِرْفَقَيْنِ، فَلَمَّا غَسَلَ رِجْلَيْهِ جَاوَزَ الْكَعْبَيْنِ إِلَى السَّاقَيْنِ، فَقُلْتُ: مَا هَذَا؟ فَقَالَ: هَذَا مَبْلَغُ الْحِلْيَةِ
Abu Zur’ah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked for water and performed ablution. When he washed his arms, he went beyond the elbows, and likewise, when he washed his feet, he went beyond the ankles and began to wash up to the shins. I said: “What kind of ablution is this?” He said: “This is the place where adornment and beauty will reach.”
Hadith 654
عَنْ نُعَيْمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمُجْمِرِ أَنَّهُ رَقِيَ إِلَى أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَلَى ظَهْرِ الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَرَفَعَ فِي عَضُدَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَيَّ فَقَالَ: إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((إِنَّ أُمَّتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ هُمُ الْغُرُّ الْمُحَجَّلُونَ مِنْ آثَارِ الْوُضُوءِ، فَمَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ مِنْكُمْ أَنْ يُطِيلَ غُرَّتَهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ)) فَقَالَ نُعَيْمٌ: لَا أَدْرِي قَوْلَهُ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يُطِيلَ غُرَّتَهُ فَلْيَفْعَلْ مِنْ قَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ مِنْ قَوْلِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ
Naeem bin Abdullah Mujmir, may Allah have mercy on him, says that he climbed onto the roof of the mosque and reached the presence of Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, while he was performing ablution. He began to wash the part of his arms above the elbows, then turned towards me and said: The Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, the foreheads and hands and feet of my Ummah will be shining due to the traces of ablution, so whoever among you wishes to lengthen his brightness, let him do so." Naeem said: I could not know whether the words "so whoever among you wishes to lengthen his brightness, let him do so" are from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, or from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him.
Hadith 655
عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِيلَ لَهُ: كَيْفَ تَعْرِفُ مَنْ لَمْ تَرَهُ مِنْ أُمَّتِكَ؟ فَقَالَ: ((إِنَّهُمْ غُرٌّ مُحَجَّلُونَ بُلْقٌ مِنْ آثَارِ الْوُضُوءِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that someone asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): "How will you recognize those individuals of your Ummah whom you have not seen?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: "Surely, due to the effects of ablution, their foreheads, hands, and feet will be shining and radiant."
Hadith 656
عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ: كُنْتُ خَلْفَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ وَهُوَ يُمِرُّ الْوَضُوءَ إِلَى إِبْطِهِ، فَقُلْتُ: يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ! مَا هَذَا الْوُضُوءُ؟ قَالَ: يَا بَنِي فَرُّوخَ! أَنْتُمْ هَا هُنَا؟ لَوْ عَلِمْتُ أَنَّكُمْ هَا هُنَا مَا تَوَضَّأْتُ هَذَا الْوُضُوءَ، إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ خَلِيلِي صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((تَبْلُغُ الْحِلْيَةُ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِ إِلَى حَيْثُ يَبْلُغُ الْوُضُوءُ))
Abu Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I was standing behind Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) while he was performing ablution, and he extended the water of ablution up to his armpits. I said: "O Abu Hurairah! What kind of ablution is this?" He said: "O Banu Farukh! Are you people here? If I had known that you were present here, I would not have performed ablution in this manner. I heard my beloved (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'The adornment and beauty of the believer will reach up to the places where the water of ablution reaches.'"
Hadith 657
عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ لَقِيطِ بْنِ صَبْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: ((إِذَا تَوَضَّأْتَ فَخَلِّلِ الْأَصَابِعَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Laqeet bin Sabrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "When you perform ablution, then do khilal (interlacing) of the fingers."
Hadith 658
عَنْ أَبِي سَوْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ (رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) وَعَنْ عَطَاءٍ قَالَا: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((حَبَّذَا الْمُتَخَلِّلُونَ)) قِيلَ: وَمَا الْمُتَخَلِّلُونَ؟ قَالَ: ((فِي الْوُضُوءِ وَالطَّعَامِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Ayyub Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those who use the toothpick are very good." Someone asked: "Who are meant by those who use the toothpick?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Those who use the toothpick during ablution and after eating."
Hadith 659
عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ سَمِعَ عَبَّادَ بْنَ تَمِيمٍ عَنْ عَمِّهِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ تَوَضَّأَ فَجَعَلَ يَقُولُ هَكَذَا، يَدْلُكُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and he (peace and blessings be upon him) began to rub (the limbs) during ablution.
