Humran bin Aban, may Allah have mercy on him, says: Sayyiduna Uthman, may Allah be pleased with him, called for water while he was in the sitting place. He poured water on his right hand, and according to one narration, he poured water on both hands three times and washed them. Then he put his right hand into the vessel and washed his palms three times, then washed his face three times, rinsed his mouth, put water into his nose and blew it out, washed his arms including the elbows three times, and then wiped his head. In one narration, it is mentioned: he passed both hands over the outer parts of his ears and then over the outer part of his beard, then washed his feet up to the ankles three times, and then said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: “Whoever performs ablution like this ablution of mine and then offers two rak‘ahs in such a way that he does not talk to himself in them, his previous sins will be forgiven.” In one narration, it is mentioned: His sins will be forgiven that are between this prayer and the previous day’s prayer.
