Chapter on What Has Been Reported Regarding Siwak for the Fasting and the Hungry
Hadith 573
عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مَا لَا أَعُدُّ وَلَا أُحْصِي يَسْتَاكُ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna ‘Amir bin Rabi‘ah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: “I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) using the miswak while fasting countless and innumerable times.”
Hadith 574
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا حَسَنٌ ثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ قَابُوسٍ أَنَّ أَبَاهُ حَدَّثَهُ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ رَجُلَانِ حَاجَتُهُمَا وَاحِدَةٌ، فَتَكَلَّمَ أَحَدُهُمَا فَوَجَدَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ فِيهِ إِخْلَافًا فَقَالَ لَهُ: ((أَلَا تَسْتَاكُ؟)) فَقَالَ: إِنِّي لَا أَفْعَلُ وَلَكِنِّي لَمْ أَطْعَمْ طَعَامًا مُنْذُ ثَلَاثٍ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ رَجُلًا فَآوَاهُ وَقَضَى لَهُ حَاجَتَهُ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: Two men came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), both had a similar need. When one of them spoke, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) noticed an unpleasant odor from his mouth and asked him: "Do you not use the miswak?" He replied: "Yes, I certainly do, but the real matter is that I have not eaten food for three days." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) instructed a man, so he gave him a place and fulfilled his need.
