Hadith 550
Under this chapter, the following sub-chapters and hadiths have been mentioned.
عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرٍ الصدِّيقِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((السِّوَاكُ مَطْهَرَةٌ لِلْفَمِ، مَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Using the miswak purifies the mouth and is an act that pleases the Lord, the Exalted."
Hadith 551
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has also narrated a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 552
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: عَلَيْكُمْ بِالسِّوَاكِ، فَإِنَّهُ مَطْيَبَةٌ لِلْفَمِ وَمَرْضَاةٌ لِلرَّبِّ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Make the use of miswak obligatory upon yourselves, for it purifies the mouth and pleases the Lord.”
Hadith 553
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((أُمِرْتُ بِالسِّوَاكِ حَتَّى ظَنَنْتُ أَوْ حَسِبْتُ أَنَّ سَيَنْزِلُ فِيهِ قُرْآنٌ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I was commanded so much to use the miswak that I began to think that soon a verse of the Noble Qur'an would be revealed about it."
Hadith 554
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُكْثِرُ السِّوَاكَ حَتَّى ظَنَنَّا أَوْ رَأَيْنَا أَنَّهُ سَيَنْزِلُ عَلَيْهِ
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used the miswak so frequently that we began to think that soon a verse of the Qur'an would be revealed regarding it.
Hadith 555
عَنْ وَاثِلَةَ بْنِ الْأَسْقَعِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((أُمِرْتُ بِالسِّوَاكِ حَتَّى خَشِيتُ أَنْ يُكْتَبَ عَلَيَّ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Wathilah bin Asqa’ (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “I was commanded so much to use the miswak that I began to fear that it might be made obligatory.”
Hadith 556
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((أَكْثَرْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي السِّوَاكِ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "I have strongly emphasized to you the use of the miswak."
Hadith 557
عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((مَا جَاءَنِي جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ قَطُّ إِلَّا أَمَرَنِي بِالسِّوَاكِ، لَقَدْ خَشِيتُ أَنْ أُحْفِيَ مُقَدَّمَ فِيَّ))
Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whenever Jibreel (peace be upon him) came to me, he instructed me to use the miswak. I began to fear that perhaps the front part of my mouth would be uprooted."
Hadith 558
عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَسْتَنُّ فَأَعْطَى أَكْبَرَ الْقَوْمِ وَقَالَ: ((إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ أَمَرَنِي أَنْ أُكَبِّرَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), he says: I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) using the miswak, then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave that miswak to the eldest person among the people and said: "Indeed, Jibreel (peace be upon him) has commanded me to give the miswak to the eldest person."
Hadith 559
عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ تَمَّامِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: أَتَوَا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ أُتِيَ، فَقَالَ: ((مَا لِي أَرَاكُمْ تَأْتُونِي قُلْحًا، اسْتَاكُوا، لَوْ لَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي لَفَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمُ السِّوَاكَ كَمَا فَرَضْتُ عَلَيْهِمُ الْوُضُوءَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Tamam bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when people came to the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he said: "What is the reason that you have come to me in such a state that there is filth and yellowness visible on your teeth? Use the miswak. If there had not been a fear of hardship upon my ummah, I would have made the use of miswak obligatory like wudu."
