Hadith 526
عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لِحَاجَتِهِ فَقَالَ: ((الْتَمِسْ لِي ثَلَاثَةَ أَحْجَارٍ)) قَالَ: فَأَتَيْتُهُ بِحَجَرَيْنِ وَرَوْثَةٍ، قَالَ: فَأَخَذَ الْحَجَرَيْنِ وَأَلْقَى الرَّوْثَةَ وَقَالَ: ((إِنَّهَا رِكْسٌ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to relieve himself and said: "Bring me three stones." So I brought two stones and a piece of dung, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) took the two stones and threw away the dung and said: "This is impure."
Hadith 527
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) فَقَالَ: ((ائْتِنِي بِشَيْءٍ أَسْتَنْجِي بِهِ وَلَا تُقْرِبْنِي حَائِلًا وَلَا رَجِيعًا))
(Second chain) The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Bring me something with which I may perform istinja, and do not bring any decayed bone or dung near me."
Hadith 528
وَعَنْهُ أَيْضًا، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَاهُ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ وَمَعَهُ عَظْمٌ حَائِلٌ وَبَعْرَةٌ وَفَحْمَةٌ فَقَالَ: ((لَا تَسْتَنْجِيَنَّ بِشَيْءٍ مِنْ هَذَا، إِذَا خَرَجْتَ إِلَى الْخَلَاءِ))
It is also narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that on the night of the jinn, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to him while he had with him a decayed bone, camel dung, and charcoal. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When you go to relieve yourself, do not use any of these things for istinja (purification)."
Hadith 529
عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى أَنْ يَسْتَنْجِيَ بِبَعْرَةٍ أَوْ بِعَظْمٍ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade using camel dung or bones for istinja (purification).
Hadith 530
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَنَا دَاوُدُ وَابْنُ أَبِي زَائِدَةَ الْمَعْنَى، قَالَا: ثَنَا دَاوُدُ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ: هَلْ صَحِبَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَيْلَةَ الْجِنِّ مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ؟ فَقَالَ: مَا صَحِبَهُ مِنَّا أَحَدٌ وَلَكِنَّا قَدْ فَقَدْنَاهُ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ، فَقُلْنَا: أُغْتِيَلَ؟ أُسْتُطِيرَ؟ مَا فَعَلَ؟ قَالَ: فَبِتْنَا بِشَرِّ لَيْلَةٍ بَاتَ بِهَا قَوْمٌ، فَلَمَّا كَانَ فِي وَجْهِ الصُّبْحِ أَوْ قَالَ: فِي السَّحَرِ إِذَا نَحْنُ بِهِ يَجِيءُ مِنْ قِبَلِ حِرَاءَ، فَقُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! فَذَكَرُوا الَّذِي كَانُوا فِيهِ فَقَالَ: ((إِنَّهُ أَتَانِي دَاعِي الْجِنِّ فَأَتَيْتُهُمْ فَقَرَأْتُ عَلَيْهِمْ)) قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقَ بِنَا فَأَرَانِي آثَارَهُمْ وَآثَارَ نِيرَانِهِمْ، قَالَ: وَقَالَ الشَّعْبِيُّ: سَأَلُوهُ الزَّادَ، قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي الزَّائِدَةَ: قَالَ عَامِرٌ: فَسَأَلُوهُ لَيْلَتَئِذِ الزَّادَ وَكَانُوا مِنْ جِنِّ الْجَزِيرَةِ فَقَالَ: ((كُلُّ عَظْمٍ ذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ يَقَعُ فِي أَيْدِيكُمْ أَوْ فَرْمَا كَانَ عَلَيْهِ لَحْمًا، وَكُلُّ بَعْرَةٍ أَوْ رَوْثَةٍ عَلَفٌ لِدَوَابِّكُمْ، فَلَا تَسْتَنْجُوا بِهِمَا فَإِنَّهَا زَادُ إِخْوَانِكُمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ))
Alqamah (may Allah have mercy on him) says: I said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him): “Was there anyone among you with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the night of the jinn?” He said: “None of us was with him. What happened was that one night we found the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) missing. We said: Has he been secretly killed? Has he been taken somewhere? What has happened?” We spent the worst night imaginable. When it was just before dawn or at the time of suhoor, we suddenly saw him coming from the direction of the cave of Hira. We said: ‘O Messenger of Allah!’ Then we told him the whole story. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘The caller of the jinn came to me, so I went with him and recited the Noble Qur’an to them.’ Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) took us and showed us the traces of them and their fire. They were from the jinn of the Arabian Peninsula, and that night they asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about their provision. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘Every bone over which the name of Allah has been mentioned will fall into your hands with abundant meat on it (that is your provision), and every dung and droppings are fodder for your animals. So do not use these two things for istinja, for these are the provisions of your jinn brothers.’”
