Hadith 497
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ قَالَ: سُئِلَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ يُسَلِّمُ عَلَيْهِ وَهُوَ غَيْرُ مُتَوَضِّئٍ فَقَالَ: ثَنَا سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنِ الْحُضَيْنِ أَبِي سَاسَانَ عَنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذٍ أَنَّهُ سَلَّمَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ، وَقَالَ: ((إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَرُدَّ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ إِلَّا عَلَى طَهَارَةٍ)) قَالَ: فَكَانَ الْحَسَنُ مِنْ أَجْلِ هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ يَكْرَهُ أَنْ يَقْرَأَ أَوْ يَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ حَتَّى يَطْهُرَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muhajir bin Qunfudh (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I greeted the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was performing ablution, but he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to me until he (peace and blessings be upon him) completed the ablution, and then he replied and said: "What prevented me from replying to you was that I dislike mentioning Allah Almighty without being in a state of purity." Due to this hadith, Hasan (may Allah have mercy on him) disliked reciting or mentioning Allah Almighty without purity.
Hadith 498
عَنِ الْمُهَاجِرِ بْنِ قُنْفُذِ بْنِ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ جُدْعَانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سَلَّمْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَهُوَ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ، فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ مِنْ وُضُوئِهِ قَالَ: ((لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَرُدَّ عَلَيْكَ إِلَّا أَنِّي كُنْتُ عَلَى غَيْرِ وُضُوءٍ (وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ) إِلَّا أَنِّي كَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَذْكُرَ اللَّهَ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى إِلَّا عَلَى طَهَارَةٍ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Muhajir bin Qunfudh (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I greeted the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam while he was performing ablution. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to my salam. When he finished his ablution, he said: "What prevented me from replying to your salam was that I was not in a state of purity." In another narration, it is stated: "I disliked mentioning Allah Almighty without being in a state of purity."
Hadith 499
(وَعَنْهُ مِنْ طَرِيقٍ ثَانٍ) أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَبُولُ أَوْ قَدْ بَالَ فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيَّ حَتَّى تَوَضَّأَ ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَيَّ
(Second chain) The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was urinating or had just finished urinating when I greeted him with salam, but he did not reply to me until he performed ablution, and then he replied to my greeting.
Hadith 500
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَنْظَلَةَ بْنِ الرَّاهِبِ أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَقَدْ بَالَ فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ حَتَّى قَالَ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى الْحَائِطِ، يَعْنِي أَنَّهُ تَيَمَّمَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hanzalah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man greeted the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with salam after he had urinated, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not reply to him until he struck his hand on the wall and performed tayammum. (Then he replied to the salam.)
