فَضْلٌ مِنْهُ فِي وَعِيدِ مَنْ بَدَّلَ أَوْ أَحْدَثَ بَعْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ
Its virtue regarding the warning for one who changes or innovates after the Prophet ﷺ
Hadith 340
عَنْ أَبِي بَكْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: ((لَيَرِدَنَّ عَلَيَّ الْحَوْضَ رِجَالٌ مِمَّنْ صَحِبَنِي وَرَآنِي حَتَّى إِذَا رُفِعُوا إِلَيَّ وَرَأَيْتُهُمْ اخْتُلِجُوا دُونِي فَلَأَقُولَنَّ: رَبِّ أَصْحَابِي! فَيُقَالُ: إِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَا أَحْدَثُوا بَعْدَكَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Bakrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Some of those who kept my company and saw me will come to me at the Pond, but when they are brought towards me, they will be pulled away from me. Then I will say: O my Lord! My companions! Then it will be said to me: You do not know what new things they invented after you."
Hadith 341
عَنْ يَعْقُوبَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ سَهْلًا (يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ) يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ((أَنَا فَرَطُكُمْ عَلَى الْحَوْضِ، مَنْ وَرَدَ شَرِبَ وَمَنْ شَرِبَ لَمْ يَظْمَأْ بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا، وَلَيَرِدَنَّ عَلَيَّ أَقْوَامٌ أَعْرِفُهُمْ وَيَعْرِفُونَنِي ثُمَّ يُحَالُ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُمْ، قَالَ أَبُو حَازِمٍ: فَسَمِعَ النُّعْمَانُ بْنُ أَبِي عَيَّاشٍ وَأَنَا أُحَدِّثُهُمْ هَذَا الْحَدِيثَ فَقَالَ: هَكَذَا سَمِعْتَ سَهْلًا يَقُولُ؟ قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ عَلَى أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ لَسَمِعْتُهُ يَزِيدُ فَيَقُولُ: ((إِنَّهُمْ مِنِّي، فَيُقَالُ: إِنَّكَ لَا تَدْرِي مَا عَمِلُوا بَعْدَكَ، فَأَقُولُ: سُحْقًا سُحْقًا لِمَنْ بَدَّلَ بَعْدِي)))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sahl bin Sa’d Sa’idi (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saying: “I will precede you at the Hawd (the Pond), whoever comes there will drink from it, and whoever drinks from it will never feel thirsty again. And some people will come to me at the Hawd whom I will recognize and they will recognize me, but then a barrier will be placed between me and them.” Abu Hazim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Then Nu’man bin Abu ‘Ayyash (may Allah have mercy on him) heard, while I was narrating this hadith to him, so he said: “Did you hear Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) saying this in this way?” I said: “Yes.” He said: “And I heard Sayyiduna Abu Sa’id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: ‘I will say: These people are from me,’ but it will be said to you: ‘You do not know what they did after you.’ So I will say: ‘Destruction, destruction, for the one who changed (the religion) after me.’”
Hadith 342
عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ الْيَمَانِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyiduna Hudhayfah bin Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a similar hadith from the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 343
عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلُهُ
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) has also narrated a similar hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 344
عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ الْمَخْزُومِيِّ قَالَ: كَانَتْ أُمُّ سَلَمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا تُحَدِّثُ، أَنَّهَا سَمِعَتِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ وَهِيَ تَمْتَشِطُ: ((يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ!)) فَقَالَتْ لِمَاشِطَتِهَا: لُفِّي رَأْسِي، قَالَتْ: فَقَالَتْ: فَدَيْتُكِ، إِنَّمَا يَقُولُ: يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ! قُلْتُ: وَيْحَكِ، أَوَلَسْنَا مِنَ النَّاسِ؟ فَلَفَّتْ رَأْسَهَا وَقَامَتْ فِي حُجْرَتِهَا فَسَمِعَتْهُ يَقُولُ: ((يَا أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ! بَيْنَمَا أَنَا عَلَى الْحَوْضِ جِيءَ بِكُمْ زُمَرًا فَتَفَرَّقَتْ بِكُمُ الطُّرُقَ، فَنَادَيْتُكُمْ، أَلَا! هَلُمُّوا إِلَى الطَّرِيقِ، فَنَادَانِي مُنَادٍ مِنْ بَعْدِي فَقَالَ: إِنَّهُمْ قَدْ بَدَّلُوا بَعْدَكَ، فَقُلْتُ: أَلَا! سُحْقًا، أَلَا! سُحْقًا))
Abdullah bin Rafi’ Makhzumi (may Allah have mercy on him) says: Sayyida Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I heard the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as he ascended the pulpit and said: “O people!” At that time, I was combing my hair. I said to the woman who was combing my hair, “Cover my head.” She said, “May I be sacrificed for you,” the Prophet (peace be upon him) is saying, “O people!” I said, “Woe to you, are we not people?” So she covered her head and stood in her chamber, and she heard the Prophet (peace be upon him) saying: “O people! I will be at the Hawd (the Pond), and you will be brought in groups. Then your paths will become separate (some will proceed towards the Hawd and some towards other paths). So I will call out: Beware! Come to this path. But then a caller from behind me will call out to me: ‘Indeed, these people changed the religion after you.’ So I will say: Beware! Destruction! Beware! Destruction!”
