8 hadith
Hadith 264
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "As long as I leave you alone, you also leave me alone. Those before you were destroyed because of excessive questioning and differing with their prophets. Whatever I forbid you from, abstain from it, and whatever I command you to do, do it to the best of your ability."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Among the Muslims, the greatest sinner is the one who asks about a thing and investigates it so much that, because of his question, the ruling of its prohibition is revealed.”

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "People will continue to ask questions upon questions, until it will even be asked: (It is true that) Allah Almighty created us, but who created Allah Almighty?" Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! One day I was sitting when an Iraqi man asked this very question and said: "This Allah Almighty, He created us, but who created Allah Almighty?" I put my two fingers into my ears and cried out: "Allah Almighty and His Messenger have spoken the truth, Allah Almighty is One, Self-Sufficient, He neither begets nor is begotten, and there is none comparable to Him."

Muhammad bin Sirin, may Allah have mercy on him, says: I was with Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, when a man asked him a question. I do not know what that question was. In response, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, said: «اللّٰہُ أَکْبَرُ» Two people have already asked about this, and this is the third. I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Indeed, people will continue to ask questions, until they even ask: 'Allah Almighty created the creation, but who created Him?'"

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The people before you were destroyed only and only because of excessive questioning and differing with their prophets. And whatever you ask me about, I will answer you.” Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hudhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “O Messenger of Allah! Who is my father?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Your father was Hudhafah bin Qais.” Then when he went to his mother, she said to him: “May you be ruined, what made you ask this question? We were people of ignorance and used to do shameful deeds.” He said to his mother: “I wanted to know who my father was and from which people he was.”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whatever you ask me about until the Day of Resurrection, I will explain its answer to you." Upon hearing this, Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Hudhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Who is my father?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Your father is Hudhafah." His mother said to him: "What was your intention with this question?" He replied: "My intention was to find comfort, as something was being said about it." But at that moment, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry. Seeing this, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "We are pleased with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as our Prophet. We seek refuge with Allah from the wrath of Allah and from the anger of His Messenger."

A companion (and according to one narration, Sayyiduna Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade ambiguous statements. Imam Awza’i, may Allah have mercy on him, said: By “ghuluwtat” are meant difficult and complicated issues.
