It is narrated from Sayyiduna Amr bin Abasah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says that a man said: “O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That your heart submits to Allah Almighty and that other Muslims are safe from your tongue and hand.” He said: “Which Islam is best?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Faith (Iman).” In another narration: “Good character.” He said: “What is faith?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “That you believe in Allah Almighty, His angels, His books, His messengers, and resurrection after death.” In another narration: He said: “What is faith?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Patience and tolerance.” He said: “Which faith is best?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Migration (Hijrah).” He said: “What is migration?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “To abandon evil.” He said: “Which migration is best?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Jihad.” He said: “What is jihad?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “To fight against the disbelievers when you encounter them.” He said: “Which jihad is best?” He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “The one whose horse’s legs are cut and his own blood is shed.” Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Then there are two deeds, they are the best, and (the one who does them is the most virtuous) except that a man acts upon these two: Hajj Mabrur or Umrah.”

Hadith 72
It is narrated from Rabi’ bin Hirash, may Allah have mercy on him, that a man from Banu ‘Amir sought permission to enter upon the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: “May I come in?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to his servant: “This man did not seek permission in a good manner, so go to him and tell him to say: As-salamu ‘alaykum, may I come in?” The man himself heard these words of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: “As-salamu ‘alaykum, may I come in?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, granted him permission. He said: “So I entered and said to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: What have you brought to us?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Indeed, I have brought goodness. The details are that I have come to you so that you may worship Allah, the One and Only, Who has no partner, and that you abandon Lat and ‘Uzza, and that you perform five prayers in the day and night, fast one month in the year, perform Hajj to the House of Allah, and take zakat from your wealthy and distribute it among your poor.” The man said: “Is there any type of deed that you do not know?” The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “Allah Almighty has taught me goodness, but there are some forms of knowledge that only Allah Almighty knows, as Allah Almighty has said: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ عِنْدَهُ عِلْمُ السَّاعَةِ وَيُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ وَيَعْلَمُ مَا فِي الْأَرْحَامِ وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ مَاذَا تَكْسِبُ غَدًا وَمَا تَدْرِي نَفْسٌ بِأَيِّ أَرْضٍ تَمُوتُ إِنَّ اللَّهَ عَلِيمٌ خَبِيرٌ» (Indeed, with Allah alone is knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and He knows what is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow, and no soul knows in which land it will die. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware.) (Surah Luqman: 34)”

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jarir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We set out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and when we had left Madinah Munawwarah, we saw a rider hastening his mount towards us. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It seems that this rider intends to come to you." When he reached us, he greeted us with salam and we replied to him. The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: "Where are you coming from?" He said: "I am coming from my family, children, and relatives." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Where do you intend to go?" He said: "I wish to meet the Messenger of Allah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You have attained your goal." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! Teach me about faith, what is it?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bear witness that Allah alone is the true deity and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, establish prayer, pay zakat, fast in Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House of Allah." He said: "Yes, I affirm." Meanwhile, the front leg of his camel got stuck in a mouse hole, causing the camel to fall and the man to fall headlong and die. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Bring this servant to me." Sayyiduna Ammar and Sayyiduna Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with them both) quickly went, sat the man up, and said: "O Messenger of Allah! The servant has died." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) turned away from him and then said: "Did you not see that I was turning away from this servant? Indeed, I saw two angels placing fruits of Paradise into his mouth, from which I realized that he died hungry." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Allah! He is among those about whom Allah Almighty has said: «الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُوا إِيمَانَهُمْ بِظُلْمٍ أُولَٰئِكَ لَهُمُ الْأَمْنُ وَهُمْ مُهْتَدُونَ» (Those who believe and do not mix their faith with shirk, for them is security and they are rightly guided.) (Surah Al-An'am: 82)" Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Take care of your brother." So we lifted him and took him to the water, washed him, applied fragrance, shrouded him, and carried him to the grave. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came and sat at the edge of the grave and said: "Make a lahd (side niche), do not make a shaqq (simple pit), for lahd is for us and shaqq is for the people of other religions."

(Second chain) Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), we were walking when a man appeared before us, then he mentioned a narration of the same kind, but he also said these words: "The front leg of his camel got stuck in a hole dug by mice." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said about that man: "He is among those who do little deeds, but receive a great reward."

(Third chain) A man came and entered into Islam. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was teaching him about Islam during one of his journeys. Meanwhile, the man's camel's foot got stuck in a mouse hole (which caused the camel to fall), and it broke the man's neck, resulting in his death. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to him and said: "He did little deeds, but received a great reward." He repeated this sentence three times and then said: "The lahd (side niche grave) is for us, and the shaqq (simple trench grave) is for other people."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, that a Bedouin came to the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Point out to me a deed which, if I do it, I will enter Paradise." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Worship Allah, do not associate anything with Him, establish the obligatory prayers, pay the obligatory zakat, and fast in Ramadan." He said: "By Him in whose hand is the life of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him! I will neither add to these acts of worship nor will I decrease anything from them." When he left, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever wishes to see a man from among the people of Paradise, let him look at this man."
