Hadith 68
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that when the delegation of Abdul Qais arrived in Madinah Munawwarah, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To whom does this delegation or this tribe belong?" They said: "We are from Rabi'ah." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to this delegation or tribe, you have come without disgrace or regret." They said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have come to you after a long journey, and since the disbelieving tribe of Mudar stands as a barrier between us and you, we can only come to you during the sacred months. Therefore, give us a command by which we may enter Paradise and also teach it to those we have left behind." Then they asked about drinking vessels, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them regarding four things and forbade them from four things. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them to have faith in Allah, and then asked: "Do you know what faith in Allah is?" They said: "Allah and His Messenger know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is to bear witness that Allah alone is worthy of worship and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is His Messenger, to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to give one-fifth of the spoils of war." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade them from using gourds, green jars, vessels made from palm trunks, and tar-coated vessels, and said: "Remember these matters and inform those you have left behind."
