Hadith 60
عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: كُنَّا قَدْ نُهِينَا أَنْ نَسْأَلَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنْ شَيْءٍ، فَكَانَ يُعْجِبُنَا أَنْ يَجِيءَ الرَّجُلُ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ الْعَاقِلُ فَيَسْأَلَهُ وَنَحْنُ نَسْمَعُ، فَجَاءَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ فَقَالَ: يَا مُحَمَّدُ! أَتَانَا رَسُولُكَ فَزَعَمَ لَنَا أَنَّكَ تَزْعُمُ أَنَّ اللَّهَ أَرْسَلَكَ، قَالَ: ((صَدَقَ)) قَالَ: فَمَنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاءَ؟ قَالَ: ((اللَّهُ)) قَالَ: فَمَنْ خَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ؟ قَالَ: ((اللَّهُ)) قَالَ: فَمَنْ نَصَبَ هَذِهِ الْجِبَالَ وَجَعَلَ فِيهَا مَا جَعَلَ؟ قَالَ: ((اللَّهُ)) قَالَ: فَبِالَّذِي خَلَقَ السَّمَاءَ وَخَلَقَ الْأَرْضَ وَنَصَبَ هَذِهِ الْجِبَالَ! آللَّهُ أَرْسَلَكَ؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ)) قَالَ: فَزَعَمَ رَسُولُكَ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا خَمْسَ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي يَوْمِنَا وَلَيْلَتِنَا؟ قَالَ: ((صَدَقَ)) قَالَ: فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ! آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ)) قَالَ: فَزَعَمَ رَسُولُكَ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا زَكَاةً فِي أَمْوَالِنَا؟ قَالَ: ((صَدَقَ)) قَالَ: فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ! آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ)) قَالَ: وَزَعَمَ رَسُولُكَ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا صَوْمَ شَهْرِ رَمَضَانَ فِي سَنَتِنَا؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ، صَدَقَ)) قَالَ: فَبِالَّذِي أَرْسَلَكَ! آللَّهُ أَمَرَكَ بِهَذَا؟ قَالَ: ((نَعَمْ)) قَالَ: وَزَعَمَ رَسُولُكَ أَنَّ عَلَيْنَا حَجَّ الْبَيْتِ مَنِ اسْتَطَاعَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلًا؟ قَالَ: ((صَدَقَ)) قَالَ: ثُمَّ وَلَّى فَقَالَ: وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ نَبِيًّا لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِنَّ شَيْئًا وَلَا أَنْقُصُ مِنْهُنَّ شَيْئًا، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((لَئِنْ صَدَقَ لَيَدْخُلَنَّ الْجَنَّةَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We had been forbidden from asking questions from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so we liked it when an intelligent Bedouin would come and ask questions from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and we would listen. One day, it happened that a Bedouin man came and said: “O Muhammad! Your messenger came to us and informed us that you claim that Allah Almighty has sent you?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He spoke the truth.” He said: “Then tell me, who created the sky?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty.” He said: “Who created the earth?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty.” He said: “Who created these mountains and placed so much in them?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Allah Almighty.” He said: “Then by the One who created the sky, created the earth, and fixed these mountains! Has Allah Almighty really sent you?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes.” He said: “Your messenger also said that five prayers are obligatory upon us in a day and night?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He spoke the truth.” He said: “Then by the One who sent you! Has Allah Almighty commanded you this?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes.” He said: “Your messenger also said that zakat is obligatory on our wealth?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He spoke the truth.” He said: “Then by the One who sent you! Has Allah Almighty commanded you this?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes.” He said: “Your messenger also said that fasting in Ramadan is obligatory upon us once a year?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes, he spoke the truth.” He said: “Then by the One who sent you! Has Allah Almighty commanded you to fast?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Yes.” He then said: “Your messenger also said that whoever has the ability, Hajj to the House of Allah is obligatory upon him?” The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “He spoke the truth.” After hearing all this, the man turned back saying: “By the One who sent you as a Prophet with the truth! I will neither add to these (acts of worship) nor decrease from them.” The Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If he is speaking the truth, he will surely enter Paradise.”
Hadith 61
(وَعَنْهُ فِي أُخْرَى) بِنَحْوِ هَذَا وَزَادَ، قَالَ الرَّجُلُ: آمَنْتُ بِمَا جِئْتَ بِهِ وَأَنَا رَسُولُ مَنْ وَرَائِي مِنْ قَوْمِي، قَالَ: وَأَنَا ضِمَامُ بْنُ ثَعْلَبَةَ أَخُو بَنِي سَعْدِ بْنِ بَكْرٍ.
A similar hadith is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), except that it contains these additional words: "I have believed in what you have brought, and I am the messenger of those people of my tribe who have stayed behind. I am Dhamam bin Tha'labah from the Banu Sa'd bin Bakr."
Hadith 62
عَنْ طَلْحَةَ بْنِ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: جَاءَ أَعْرَابِيٌّ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ! مَا الْإِسْلَامُ؟ قَالَ: ((خَمْسُ صَلَوَاتٍ فِي يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ)) قَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُنَّ؟ قَالَ: ((لَا)) وَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ الصَّوْمِ، فَقَالَ: ((صِيَامُ رَمَضَانَ)) قَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهُ؟ قَالَ: ((لَا)) قَالَ: وَذَكَرَ الزَّكَاةَ، قَالَ: هَلْ عَلَيَّ غَيْرُهَا؟ قَالَ: ((لَا)) قَالَ: وَاللَّهِ! لَا أَزِيدُ عَلَيْهِنَّ وَلَا أَنْقُصُ مِنْهُنَّ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ: ((أَفْلَحَ إِنْ صَدَقَ))
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaidullah (may Allah be pleased with him) that a Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! What is Islam?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Five prayers in a day and night." He said: "Is there any prayer upon me besides these?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Then he asked about fasting, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fasts of Ramadan." He said: "Is there any fast upon me besides these?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Then zakat was mentioned, and he said: "Is there any zakat upon me besides this?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No." Finally, he said: "By Allah! I will neither add to these acts of worship nor decrease from them." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he has spoken the truth, he has succeeded."
